Purpose

This preferably ordained personnel member will direct his ministry and leadership to the youth (grades 6-12) of Lexington Presbyterian Church. He will seek to facilitate the effective development and oversight of ministry efforts, both personally, with a volunteer Youth Team and an Assistant Director of Youth Ministry. The primary objectives of this position will be to shepherd, disciple, train and equip youth for the maturation of their faith and for work in Christ’s kingdom.

Nature and Scope of this Position

The Director of Youth Ministry at Lexington Presbyterian Church is a member of the staff (Pastoral staff, if ordained) and called by the Session. Under the direction of the Session, his role will require him to participate in designated responsibilities for leadership and administration of the ministry to youth, which is to be his primary focus. Additionally, he is called to support general pastoral responsibilities (if ordained) as the Session or the Senior Pastor may direct him.

General Responsibilities

1. The Director of Youth Ministry will be responsible for ministry efforts, both programmatic and personal, to the segment of the Body at LPC comprised of youth in grades 6-12. He will also be a resource to the families of these youth, as necessary.

2. He will be responsible to maintain and develop a covenant family ministry philosophy/model that incorporates families of youth and the wider Body at LPC, ensuring effective communication and integration of youth, their families, and the church.

3. He will be responsible to maintain the recruitment, training and development of a supportive volunteer Youth Team to accomplish the full scope of ministry.

4. He will be responsible for the training and development of the Assistant Youth Director who will be primarily focused on the discipleship of the young ladies in the youth ministry.

5. He will be responsible to maintain and develop large group ministry to both middle school and high school students, both members and non-members of LPC.

6. He will be responsible to maintain and develop small groups as well as one-to-one growth and discipleship ministry of these students.

Position Qualifications:

This position prefers a candidate who has completed a Master of Divinity degree and the person must be ordained in the Presbyterian Church in America, or be in immediate pursuit of ordination.
