Is RTS NYC Right for You?
As you will see in the overview video below, RTS is in NYC providing New Yorkers with robust and spiritually rich theological education. We bring our leading faculty from RTS to NYC to give our graduates a foundation for a lifetime of ministry. In partnership since 2015 with Dr. Tim Keller and the City Ministry Program of Redeemer City to City, we desire to be part of a larger movement of God raising up leaders to reach New York City and the NYC metro area for the gospel of Jesus Christ.
COVID-19 has brought unprecedented challenges to NYC and the world. We have been teaching classes live via Zoom in NYC since February of 2020. We are thankful that our community and our enrollment have grown in this season. Theological education done in community to serve the church can be a source of strength in hard times.
Our Master of Arts in Biblical Studies (We anticipate meeting in person again in the Fall of 2021, on the campus of Central Presbyterian Church in Manhattan) is 66 credit hours comprised of courses in Greek, Hebrew, Bible, Theology, History and Living the Christian Life in Secular Culture. Applicants are admitted as a cohort to foster community, esprit de corps, and shared learning throughout the program. Most applicants pursue Fall admission, however, we have a limited number of seats for Winter and Spring admission.
New York City is our campus, cohorts are our community. Incoming cohorts begin their student experience in August with the Center Church Intensive taught by Dr. Tim Keller. This course provides a unique urban framework for the program. Upon completion of the MABS program, students are encouraged to enter the Redeemer City Ministry Program (CMP) for courses in preaching, shepherding, leadership, missions, and evangelism. Some of our graduates pursuing ordination have requested from their denomination that the MABS degree and the CMP certificate be received in lieu of a Master of Divinity degree.
Throughout the MABS program, City to City leaders and NYC pastors provide additional teaching and support to MABS students through stated monthly gatherings and informal mentoring. Each Semester we have an enrichment series of monthly one-hour lectures or special seminars a theme that supports ministry.
Generous need-based scholarships are available to applicants through two programs. Applicants who currently reside in the five boroughs of NYC, and are called to serve long term in NYC, can apply to the Redeemer City Ministry Scholarship Program. Applicants in the NY metro region can apply to the Linden Grove Ministry Fellows Program. Both programs offer structured mentoring and support throughout the MABS program. Students in both programs have access to all the resources and special offerings of RTS New York City. Inquire with our Admissions Team to learn how to learn which program is right for you and how to apply.
