OVERVIEW: This is an employment proposal for Interim Pastor at Christ Redeemer Church (CRC).

  • Part Time (20 hrs/weekly average)
  • Starting Date: January 1, 2025
  • End Date: August 31, 2025

REPORTS TO

  • Elder Board

SUMMARY

The main responsibilities are to lead in the Preaching of the Word and in the Care of the staff and core leaders (e.g., elders, deacons, etc.) during the Lead Pastor’s sabbatical.

The Sabbatical Interim Pastor will serve under the Lead Pastor for one month at the beginning and end of the sabbatical to support the Lead Pastor’s transition. During the sabbatical, the Interim Pastor is expected to work collegially with the Executive Pastor (and all staff) to support and maintain the ministries of Christ Redeemer Church. 

JOB DESCRIPTION

Sunday Morning/Preaching/Preparation 

  • Preach at least 2/month. 
  • Attend at least 3/month in Hanover. The remaining Sundays will be reserved for rest and visiting other network churches. 
  • Assist in the preparation of Sunday Morning Worship. 
  • Baptisms, Funerals, Weddings as needed or requested.
  • Participation in weekly Staff and Preaching staff meetings, Tuesdays 11am – 4pm. 

Pastoral Care

  • Provide care of staff and other core leaders.
  • Provide pastoral care to the ill, hospitalized, and bereaved, as needed.
  • Provide pastoral care/counseling, as needed, however, most of this should be carried by the staff and other church leaders. Therefore, coordination with staff and other leaders, as well as understanding the church’s external resources/referral options (e.g., CCEF-NE) is necessary.

Ministry Participation

  • Help provide direction and care for staff as they seek to carry out their roles, according to the vision of the church.
  • Monthly Elders meeting.

Assist the Pastoral Team in CRC’s 4 R’s Ministry (Reproducing/Revitalizing/Resourcing/Residency)

  • Since we are fostering a mutual learning-leadership community, we expect the person to participate in mutual connection, accountability, and coaching of interns, residents, and pastoral staff. 
  • Assist with CRC’s Network Churches as needed.

Position Qualifications:

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND EDUCATION EXPECTATIONS

  • 10+ years Ministry Experience (Senior or Lead level); Interim Experience desired
  • Strong preaching/teaching skills, as well as public and interpersonal communication skills
  • Leadership & supervisory ability with staff and volunteers
  • Positive interpersonal and influence skills
  • Theological Graduate degree preferred 

 

GENERAL EXPECTATIONS

  • Each person brings their own giftings, life experiences and perspectives to their work. All staff will be expected to share these in a spirit of humility and mutual edification, so that the church might grow in unity (Ephesians 4:15-16).
  • Maintain a gospel spirit of vision and self-sacrifice (2 Timothy 2:1-5).
  • Maintain a positive attitude about yourself, your areas of responsibility, and the staff. Our staff will work cooperatively and cheerfully, maintaining a good rapport with all staff, volunteers, church members, and outside professionals.
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality. 
  • Be congenial, professional, business-like in all personal contacts with others. Maintain a high level of professional excellence in your dress, appearance, work habits, and work quality. Exercise good time management (Eph. 5:15-16). Be sensitive to the needs of others (Phil. 2:1-8; Col. 4:5-6).
  • Our staff will maintain a lifestyle that Scripture requires of ministers of the gospel (e.g. 1 Timothy 3:1-8; Titus 1). If this is not maintained, this employment agreement may be terminated. 
  • Flexibility of Hours – Our staff must expect flexible hours, being available when the work of ministry is needed or is best accomplished (e.g. evenings, weekends, periodic retreats, conferences, unexpected circumstances, etc.)
  • Humility and Teachability – This position is a learning opportunity. Our staff are expected to be aggressive learners. This will require flexibility in expectations, initiation of opportunity, and eagerly and humbly seeking input.
  • Exemplary general participation in the life and ministry of CRC (e.g., Sunday worship, Sunday school, Community Groups, women’s/men’s ministries, appropriate other ministries, abiding by the church constitution, etc.)
  • Other expectations may arise that will be negotiated within the general terms and spirit of this agreement.

Description of Organization

Christ Redeemer Church is a vibrant congregation of ~300 individuals, families, and college students set in lovely Hanover, NH. As we plan for our Lead Pastor's first sabbatical, we are looking for an experienced ministry leader to serve as a part-time Interim Pastor from January through August 2025 (the Lead Pastor will be away February-July so this will allow for some overlap on either end). The essence of this role is to provide consistency from the pulpit by preaching two Sundays per month and to provide support for our staff team and lay leaders, including the Campus Pastors who lead our two church plants.
