Financial Accountant

Job Description:

The Financial Accountant is responsible for supporting and assisting the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Director of Finance in financial reporting and analysis, account reconciliation, annual budgeting, and alternative investment tracking. This position reports to the Director of Finance but may, at times, work directly with the CFO for special financial reports and analysis.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive analysis and detailed research of income statements, balance sheets, and budget variances to provide insightful recommendations for optimizing financial performance.
  • Generate in-depth analyses and reports on budgets, forecasts, financial plans, statistical data, cash flow projections, and business forecasts to facilitate management in informed decision-making processes
  • Assist CFO in the development, communication, and integration of annual budgets into the accounting system, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and financial targets
  • Manage budget access permissions and oversee the accurate allocation of general ledger accounts within the accounting system, maintaining data integrity and compliance with financial standards.
  • Assist Director of Finance in executing month-end and year-end closing procedures, including the meticulous reconciliation of accounts and the recording of accrual accounting entries to ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Complete Year-End reconciliation and true-up processes for alternative investments, ensuring precision and adherence to regulatory requirements and accounting standards.

 

Additional Responsibilities and Requirements

  • Evaluate historical and current financial data to understand the company’s financial condition
  • Understand industry-specific business trends and research data
  • Ability to write data-backed reports to support the management team in making strategic business decisions
  • Develop financial models that forecast business outcomes and profits
  • Maintain site access to alternative investment management groups to monitor and communicate distributions, capital calls, and other relevant information with investment custody agent
  • Assist in preparation of subscription documents for new alternative investments.
  • Serve as back-up for cash receipts
  • Other duties as assigned.

Position Qualifications:

Required Education and Experience

  • A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or other related field.
  • Strong alignment with the mission and values of Reformed Theological Seminary.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience.
  • General ledger accounting experience.
  • Understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Able to work independently as well as with cross-functional groups.
  • Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills required.
  • Strong verbal and written skills along with good interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Excel.

Preferred Education, and Experience

  • A master’s degree in accounting, finance, or other related field.
  • CPA license, CFA, or other related certification
  • Higher education and/or nonprofit organization experience
  • Jenzabar One experience
  • Experience working with a company with multiple locations across multiple states
  • Public accounting firm auditing experience
