Dr. Ligon Duncan introduces Calvin’s Teaching on Job by Dr. Derek Thomas. This book looks at John Calvin’s pastoral use of the doctrine of providence in his sermons on the book of Job.

Hello, I’m Ligon Duncan, and this is RTS Book Notes. Today, I want to tell you about a book by Dr. Derek Thomas. Dr. Derek Thomas is a Chancellor’s Professor of Systematic Theology at Reformed Theological Seminary. He’s taught at both at Jackson and Orlando campuses of RTS and he is the senior minister of the historic First Presbyterian Church in Columbia, South Carolina, as well as a teaching fellow for Ligonier Ministries. This book that I want to tell you about today is from his Ph.D. dissertation. It’s Calvin’s Teaching on JobAnd he looks at Calvin’s pastoral use of the doctrine of providence in those great sermons that Calvin preached on that book. If you’re teaching and preaching through the book of Job, this is a great companion for you. It’s published by our friends at Christian Focus Publications. It’s in their Mentor series, which is their academic imprint. And I recommend it to you. Thank you for listening to RTS Book Notes.
