Esteemed theological studies teacher and researcher to join RTS Jackson faculty

Dr. Joshua Malone

JACKSON, Miss. — The Board of Trustees of Reformed Theological Seminary is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Joshua Malone to the faculty of RTS Jackson. Dr. Malone will serve as Associate Professor of Systematic Theology beginning June 1, 2023.

Dr. Malone brings a wealth of teaching experience to RTS, having served as Associate Professor of Theological Studies at Palm Beach Atlantic University in West Palm Beach, Fla. since 2018, where he teaches graduate and undergraduate courses and serves as chair of the theology department. Prior to his time at PBA, he taught at Moody Bible Institute in Spokane, Wash.

“I am extremely pleased to be able to welcome Dr. Josh Malone to Reformed Theological Seminary,” said Dr. Ligon Duncan, RTS Chancellor and Jackson campus President. “An experienced teacher, scholar, and pastor, Josh is an excellent fit for what is one of the largest and most prolific Reformed systematic theology faculties in the world.

“We are excited for Josh, Emily, and the children to arrive in Jackson, and we can’t wait to enfold them into the RTS family. RTS Jackson has been blessed with outstanding teaching professors in the theology department over the whole course of our almost 60-year history. I look forward to Josh continuing and adorning that rich legacy, to the glory of God, to the edification of a new generation of RTS students, and for the good of the church.”

After earning a B.S. in electrical engineering from Texas A&M University, Dr. Malone went on to complete a ThM at Dallas Theological Seminary as well as MTh and Ph.D. degrees in systematic theology at the University of Aberdeen in Scotland. His publications include a number of essays and chapters on the topics of Trinity and Christology.

Dr. Malone’s doctoral research, which he is currently revising for publication as a book, focused on the doctrine of eternal generation. He is working on an additional manuscript relating Christology and anthropology.

“I am delighted that Dr. Josh Malone is joining the faculty of RTS Jackson,” said Dr. Guy Waters, Academic Dean. “He is a promising scholar, an engaging lecturer, and a committed churchman. I know that his gifts and graces will bless the students, colleagues, and staff of RTS, and I look forward to his academic and pastoral contributions to the life of RTS.”

Dr. Malone is ordained as a teaching elder in the Presbyterian Church in America and is currently an Assistant Minister at Truth Point Church. He and his wife Emily have three children and look forward to making Mississippi their home this summer.

“I am thrilled to be joining the stellar RTS Jackson faculty and serving alongside them to theologically form pastors and Christian leaders in the faith,” said Dr. Malone. “Since RTS’ founding, its commitment to the unerring authority of Scripture read within the framework of the Westminster Standards has anchored the school.

“Now, at a time when residential seminary education is generally declining, it gives me great hope to see RTS thriving and bearing witness to how God’s Word is wholly sufficient to speak to our modern moment. I am eager to contribute to this work for the love of Christ and his church and to share life together with these students whom our triune God has called into his service.”
