Nate Brooks Appointed as Assistant Professor of Christian Counseling

nate-brooks-headshot(CHARLOTTE, N.C.) — Reformed Theological Seminary is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Nate Brooks as Assistant Professor of Christian Counseling at RTS Charlotte beginning June 1, 2020.

Brooks earned a B.S. in Business Administration from The Master’s University in Santa Clarita, CA. After completing his undergraduate degree, he attended The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary for his M.Div. Most recently, he received his Ph.D. from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.

Brooks’ research interests revolve around the intersection of counseling and systematic theology, with a special focus on anthropology. Brooks completed his doctoral studies under T. Dale Johnson, contrasting the historical Reformed understanding of the heart with that of second-wave cognitive behavioral therapy.

Dr. Michael J. Kruger, RTS Charlotte President, commented on Brooks’ appointment, “We are so pleased to welcome Dr. Nate Brooks to the counseling faculty at RTS Charlotte. He combines academic rigor and theological depth with a love for people that embodies the RTS motto, ‘A mind for truth and a heart for God.’ We know he will bless both our students and the larger church world for many years to come.”

Dr. Brooks joined RTS Charlotte in 2016 as the Coordinator of the Christian Counseling Program, where he has been teaching and counseling. He blogs for The Biblical Counseling Coalition and occasionally contributes articles to The Gospel Coalition. Nate and his wife, Kate, have two boys, Blaise and Gresham.

The Master of Arts in Christian Counseling at RTS Charlotte is designed to provide a rich combination of biblical-theological and practical training that prepares students to effectively apply God’s word into the suffering and struggles that occur in life. Students may study through the residential on-campus program or the unique Summer/Winter MACC, which allows students to earn a Master of Arts in Christian Counseling without relocating.
