Overview
There are many churches within a three-hour radius of RTS that are too small to afford a pastor, are between pastors or need their pulpits filled when their pastor goes on vacation or gets sick. These churches rely on RTS students to fill their pulpits.
Preaching the circuit and pulpit supply provides unique opportunities for our MDiv students to cultivate their preaching skills while gaining valuable experience as they regularly preach God’s word to God’s people. Rather than the typical seminary experience of preaching a couple of times in a lab environment, students who take advantage of the circuit graduate from RTS Jackson having preached many times in the life of the local church. You’ll grow as a preacher as you prepare for pastoral ministry, and it can provide some extra income along the way.
Any MDiv student who has completed a semester of classes at RTS Jackson can sign up to be on the circuit, traveling to different churches. Those who wish to pursue pulpit supply—which involves preaching more than once a month at the same church—must be approved by the presbytery.
