(MARIETTA, Ga.) – Reformed Theological Seminary is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Guy M. Richard as President of RTS Atlanta, effective August 5, 2021. Dr. Richard has been serving as executive director at the Atlanta campus and will continue in his role as associate professor.
Since Dr. Richard’s appointment as executive director in 2017, RTS Atlanta has seen record growth or near-record growth in enrollment and development. Under his leadership, the campus launched the Alonzo and Althea Edmiston Center for the Study of the Bible & Ethnicity in 2018. The Atlanta campus has also launched several other initiatives in the last few years that will have a kingdom impact in the greater Atlanta area and beyond. In 2020, he was promoted to Associate Professor of Systematic Theology.
RTS Chancellor and CEO Ligon Duncan shared, “Dr. Guy Richard’s leadership of the RTS Atlanta campus has been outstanding and exemplary. The growth of RTS Atlanta attests to that. His promotion to president is a vote of confidence and grateful recognition by the chancellor and Executive Committee of RTS. RTS Atlanta is in very good hands.”
Dr. Richard has a Ph.D. in Historical and Systematic Theology from the University of Edinburgh in Scotland. Prior to coming to Atlanta, he served as senior pastor of First Presbyterian Church (PCA) in Gulfport, Mississippi. During his 12 years in Gulfport, he led the congregation in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, which completely destroyed the church facility and many homes.
“I am both greatly encouraged and tremendously humbled to be receiving this promotion,” said Dr. Richard. “In a very real sense, I see it as a campus-wide promotion, because a whole lot of hard work on the part of the entire staff and faculty here in Atlanta has gone into making this a reality. It is a huge vote of confidence in what we are doing as a campus and a recognition of all the good things that are happening. If you are ever in the Atlanta area, please stop by and allow us to show you first hand.”
Dr. Richard has written several books, many articles, and chapters in academic journals and books. He has also written an extensive number of devotional articles for more popular magazines and journals. Guy and his wife, Jennifer, have three children.
RTS Atlanta
RTS Atlanta is a growing campus located on eight beautiful acres just outside of the Perimeter in south Marietta. The campus has been training pastors, campus ministers, missionaries, educators, and church leaders in the Atlanta area for more than 20 years. They currently have around 200 students who are studying for the Master of Divinity degree, the Master of Arts degree (in Religion or Biblical Studies), and a variety of other certificate and course offerings.
RTS Atlanta is also home to the Alonzo and Althea Edmiston Center for the Study of the Bible & Ethnicity (ECSBE), which seeks to foster an appreciation for the histories and cultures of people groups that are outside of the dominant culture and, in doing so, to provide additional training for church leaders who especially want to minister in multi-ethnic, cross-cultural, and foreign missions contexts.
