JACKSON, Miss. — Reformed Theological Seminary is pleased to announce that the Rev. Jason Helopoulos will deliver the 2023 John Reed Miller Preaching Lectures at RTS Jackson.
A native of central Illinois, Helopoulos graduated from Eastern Illinois University in 1999 before attending Dallas Theological Seminary, where he earned a ThM with a concentration in historical theology and Christian education in 2003. He served on the staff of Park Cities Presbyterian Church as a pastoral intern for one year and has since pastored PCA churches in North Carolina and Michigan.
Helopoulos has been the senior pastor of University Reformed Church in East Lansing, Mich. since 2018. He and his wife, Leah, have two children.
“I always benefit from Jason’s clear and thoughtful preaching. His commitment to gospel reformation, exemplary expository preaching, and earnest shepherding have earned the respect of our denomination,” said Dr. Charlie Wingard, Professor of Pastoral Theology and Dean of Students. “I’m thrilled that he will bring those preaching gifts to the first JRM lectures on our new campus. Along with my students, friends, and the Jackson Christian community, we’ll leave this conference strengthened in our commitment to proclaim Christ and his unsearchable riches.”
Chancellor Ligon Duncan said, “It has been my privilege and joy to know Jason for many years. I first met him at the Winter Grace conference at PCPC in Dallas, where he served on staff and had been mentored by my former pastor, Paul G. Settle. I’m so thankful for godly and gifted pastors like Jason in the rising generation of Reformed ministry. Our students and community will be blessed by his messages, wisdom, and humility.”
The John Reed Miller Preaching Lectures
The John Reed Miller Preaching Lectures are the oldest continuous lectureship at RTS, deriving their name from Dr. John Reed Miller, the pastor of First Presbyterian Church in Jackson from 1952-1968. Dr. Miller started a winter lecture series on Reformed theology that was an early precursor to RTS.
Along with Sam Patterson, Dr. Miller was one of the five pastors who met to pray about the founding of the seminary. First Presbyterian Church later established and funded the RTS John Reed Miller Lectures in his honor to promote the biblical theology and practice of Reformed preaching and pastoral ministry that Dr. Miller embodied in his life and work.
Past speakers for the lectures have included Rico Tice, Joel Beeke, Ralph Davis, Mark Dever, Julius Kim, Sinclair Ferguson, Tim Keller, Kevin DeYoung, and Brian Habig, as well as an array of other esteemed speakers. Recordings of the prior lectures are available on the RTS website.
This year’s lectures series will take place on October 24-26. Click here to register for the event.
