Official burgundy and gray tones take on new honorary designations
Together with Chancellor Ligon Duncan, Reformed Theological Seminary is pleased to announce that the primary RTS brand colors have been named in honor of two longtime friends of the seminary: Robert “Bob” Bailey and Pauline “Polly” McReynolds Stone.
When RTS adopted burgundy and gray as its official colors, the seminary designated the shades as “RTS Burgundy” and “RTS Warm Gray.” Dr. Duncan retitled the colors as “RTS Bailey Burgundy” and “RTS McReynolds Stone Gray” in honor of the faithful service and dedicated commitment of Bailey and Stone to RTS.
The seminary uses these colors in all official communications and other materials. They are frequently seen in the RTS shield logo and other brand marks. The colors represent the seminary’s commitment to the pursuit of excellence, academic integrity, and service to the church.
Robert “Bob” Bailey
Bob Bailey joined RTS as Vice President for Development in 1995 under President Dr. Luder Whitlock and later became Chief Operations Officer and Assistant to the Chancellor under Dr. Ric Cannada. He served in that position until his retirement in 2008. Bob’s wife, Amanda, was also a longtime supporter of RTS, auditing numerous courses beginning in the mid-1980s. She avidly shared what she learned at RTS as she taught Bible studies and Sunday school classes. After a long period of declining health and mobility, Amanda went to be with the Lord in 2020.
Bob has continued to serve RTS even in his retirement. After the board of trustees announced the relocation of RTS Jackson, Dr. Duncan recruited Bob to return to the seminary as a consultant for the transition process. In this role, he has been an advisor to the chancellor and played a major role in documenting and preserving the historical assets of the original campus including the aRTSFriends collection.
Pauline “Polly” McReynolds Stone
Polly McReynolds Stone served in a variety of roles at RTS after earning her Master of Arts (Theological Studies) degree in 1994. Eventually, she became Chief Institutional Assessment Officer, helping to maintain the seminary’s accreditation with the Association of Theological Schools (ATS) and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC).
Stone was known for her attention to detail and love of learning, serving on accreditation teams for other schools and on the ATS board for six years. She also wrote several articles related to improving academic quality at theological seminaries. She entered her eternal rest in August 2020 after nearly four years battling cancer.
“Both Bob and Polly’s faithful service to RTS family has enabled the seminary to send forth many men and women to share his gospel and serve the church,” said Dr. Duncan. “Amanda Bailey and Polly Stone were godly women who were much beloved by the RTS family. They are sincerely missed by all who had the opportunity to know them and serve alongside them.”
