(CHARLOTTE, N.C.) — RTS Charlotte is pleased to announce the promotion of Dr. D. Blair Smith from Assistant Professor to Associate Professor of Systematic Theology effective June 1, 2020.
Dr. Michael Kruger, president of the Charlotte campus, commented on Dr. Smith’s promotion. “We couldn’t be more pleased to have Blair Smith as part of the RTS Charlotte faculty. He’s proven himself not only as a top-notch scholar, but also as a professor who cares about the students and is involved in the life of the local church. We look forward to many more years of his ministry here at the Charlotte campus.”
Dr. Blair Smith
Dr. Smith earned his M.Div. from RTS Charlotte and his Th.M. from Harvard Divinity School. In the summer of 2019, he completed his Ph.D. from Durham University in the United Kingdom. He was a student under Lewis Ayres in Historical Theology. The title of his dissertation was “The Fatherhood of God in Fourth-Century Pro-Nicene Trinitarian Theology.” During a portion of his doctoral studies, Blair served as a Research Visitor at the University of Notre Dame.
Blair is an ordained minister in the Presbyterian Church in America. He served for more than seven years as the Pastor of Adult Education at Fourth Presbyterian Church in Bethesda, MD. He also serves part-time as the Adult Education Coordinator for Christ Covenant in Matthews, NC where he works with the pastoral and ministry staff in coordinating the Sunday School curriculum and oversees the identification and training of teachers. Blair and his wife, Lisa, have four children.

The RTS Charlotte campus has become a national and international training ground for pastors, missionaries, educators, and church leaders. It has a beautiful 17-acre campus, eleven full-time resident faculty members, a library of more than 60,000 volumes, and hundreds of alumni serving Christ all over the globe. RTS Charlotte offers the Master of Divinity degree, the Master of Arts degree (in Christian Counseling, Biblical Studies, and Theological Studies), and the Doctor of Ministry degree. It also hosts the Center for Campus Ministry and the Center for Church Planting, each designed to provide additional training for students who plan to minister in these strategic areas.
