CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Reformed Theological Seminary is pleased to announce that Dr. Timothy George will deliver the 2023 Harold O.J. Brown Lectures at RTS Charlotte.
Dr. George is the founding dean of Beeson Divinity School at Samford University in Birmingham, Ala., where he was instrumental in shaping the school’s character and mission. He now serves as Distinguished Professor of Divinity. Dr. George is a life advisory trustee of Wheaton College and has chaired the Doctrine and Christian Unity Commission of the Baptist World Alliance.
Dr. Don Fortson, RTS Charlotte Professor of Church History and Pastoral Theology, helped organize the 2023 lectures.
“I am delighted to have Dr. Timothy George give the annual Harold O.J. Brown lectures this spring,” said Dr. Fortson. “Besides serving for many years as the dean of Beeson Divinity School, he is the author of many articles and books that have been helpful to me, the most well-known being the classic ‘Theology of the Reformers,’ which came out in an updated 25th anniversary edition in 2013. I have used this book numerous times as a course textbook, and found it an exceptional resource for students.”
A prolific author, Dr. George has written more than 20 books and regularly contributes to scholarly journals. He earned an A.B. degree from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga as well as MDiv and Th.D. degrees from Harvard Divinity School. An ordained minister in the Southern Baptist Convention, George has served churches in Georgia, Massachusetts, Kentucky and Alabama.
Dr. George’s lectures are on the theme of “Calvin: A Theology Worth Smuggling” and will take place at the RTS Charlotte campus on March 7. Registration for the event can be completed online.
