VIENNA, VA – Reformed Theological Seminary (RTS) announces that Dr. J. Scott Redd, Jr., President of RTS Washington, D.C. and Executive Director of RTS New York, has accepted the call to serve as Senior Pastor of Briarwood Presbyterian Church, PCA in Birmingham, Alabama. The congregation voted to extend the call to Dr. Redd on Sunday, June 15, and it will be presented for approval at the upcoming Evangel Presbytery meeting.
Dr. Redd has served RTS with distinction since 2009, first joining the faculty at RTS Orlando before being appointed President of the Washington, D.C. campus in 2012. As the Stephen B. Elmer Professor of Old Testament, he has been instrumental in shaping biblical scholarship and pastoral formation at the seminary’s Washington and New York locations.

As RTS searches for new presidential leadership, in Washington, D.C., Dr. Ligon Duncan will serve as the interim President while also giving oversight to the New York campus.
Dr. Redd’s calling demonstrates the faithful fulfillment of RTS’s mission to prepare leaders for the church. RTS graduates continue to serve in leadership roles across colleges, seminaries, graduate schools, denominations, churches, and ministries like The Gospel Coalition.
