Scott Redd, Jr., President of RTS Washington, D.C. and Executive Director of RTS New York, has accepted the call to serve as Senior Pastor of Briarwood Presbyterian Church, PCA in Birmingham, Alabama. The congregation voted to extend the call to Dr. Redd on Sunday, June 15, and it will be presented for approval at the upcoming Evangel Presbytery meeting.

Dr. Redd has served RTS with distinction since 2009, first joining the faculty at RTS Orlando before being appointed President of the Washington, D.C. campus in 2012. As the Stephen B. Elmer Professor of Old Testament, he has been instrumental in shaping biblical scholarship and pastoral formation at the seminary’s Washington and New York locations.

“I am thrilled for Scott, Jennifer Harvie Redd, and the girls, and I am thrilled for all my friends at Briarwood,” said Dr. Ligon Duncan, Chancellor and CEO of RTS. “Scott is a man of deep biblical conviction, pastoral warmth, and theological clarity. He is a gifted preacher, a thoughtful leader, and a humble servant of Christ. All of us at RTS are proud of you, Scott!”

“Dr. Redd has been an exceptional leader and scholar who has shaped countless students for faithful ministry,” said Dr. Robert J. Cara, Provost and Chief Academic Officer. “He well combines a significant understanding of biblical languages and serious exegesis of biblical books with a commitment to Reformed theology that results in a pastoral sensitivity that has been a tremendous asset to our seminary community. We celebrate this new chapter in his calling to serve the church.

“My years at Reformed Theological Seminary have been among the most formative and rewarding of my life,” said Dr. Redd. “I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to serve alongside such faithful colleagues and to invest in students who are called to ministry. While I am excited about what God has in store at Briarwood Presbyterian Church, I will always treasure my time as part of the RTS family.”

As RTS searches for new presidential leadership, in Washington, D.C., Dr. Ligon Duncan will serve as the interim President while also giving oversight to the New York campus.

Dr. Redd’s calling demonstrates the faithful fulfillment of RTS’s mission to prepare leaders for the church. RTS graduates continue to serve in leadership roles across colleges, seminaries, graduate schools, denominations, churches, and ministries like The Gospel Coalition.
