The student pastor shepherds and directs the church’s ministries related to middle school, high school, and college students.

Position Qualifications:

Spiritual and Personal Qualifications

  1. Strong Christian Faith: A mature and active relationship with Christ.
  2. Calling to Ministry: A clear sense of calling to work with students and their families.
  3. Character and Integrity: A lifestyle consistent with biblical principles.
  4. Commitment to Discipleship: Passion for mentoring and discipling students.
  5. Theological Alignment: Agreement with the doctrinal beliefs of the church or organization.

Educational Qualifications

  1. Theological Education:
    • A bachelor’s degree in theology, ministry, or a related field is often preferred.
    • Some positions may require or prefer a seminary degree (e.g., Master of Divinity or Master of Arts in Christian Education).
  2. Biblical Knowledge: Strong understanding of Scripture and its application to life.

Professional Qualifications

  1. Experience:
    • Prior experience working with youth or in a ministry setting is often required or preferred.
    • Leadership experience in organizing events, small groups, or mission trips.
  2. Teaching and Communication Skills:
    • Ability to teach biblical truths effectively to students.
    • Strong interpersonal communication skills.
  3. Event Planning: Experience in planning and executing events, retreats, or camps for youth.
  4. Administrative Skills: Competence in budgeting, scheduling, and managing resources for student ministry.

Interpersonal Skills

  1. Relational Ability:
    • Ability to connect with students from diverse backgrounds.
    • Strong relationships with parents and other church members.
  2. Leadership and Teamwork:
    • Ability to lead volunteer teams and work collaboratively with church staff.
    • Mentorship skills to guide both students and volunteers.
  3. Conflict Resolution: Skills to handle issues that may arise within the ministry.

Additional Considerations

  1. Cultural Awareness: Understanding the challenges and pressures faced by today’s youth.
  2. Background Checks: Most churches require background checks for working with minors.
  3. Flexibility: Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and attend youth events or trips.
