Position Qualifications:
- Ensure excellent execution of the mission and scope of the Diaconate
- Work with the Diaconate and particularly the Diaconate board to shape, oversee and review diaconate ‘client care plans’ and, in exceptional circumstances, provide direct client care
- Oversee all administrative aspects of the Diaconate, including client assignments to deacons and deaconesses, diaconate training and training manual, filing systems, client documentation and records, member assignments, TouchPoint troubleshooting, etc.
- Coordinate logistics for and attend monthly meetings for Diaconate and special events during the year, some of which will be in evenings or weekends
- Foster a healthy Diaconate culture through ongoing equipping, care, and support of the deacons and deaconesses
- Acquire and stay updated on local and state resources for clients and ensure appropriate delivery of resources to clients
- Manage all administrative aspects of the recruitment, nomination, and installation process for new deacons, deaconesses, and elders, including nominations, application processing, interview logistics, theological and practical skills training
- Ensure the timely processing of all Diaconate care requests received via sources outside of care intake form (i.e., phone and website inquiries, bulletin info form)
- Attend, support, and participate in Diaconate Board meetings
- Process all financial assistance requests for diaconate clients, ensuring financial requests are in line with approved care plans, payment is accurate and timely, and liaise with the finance department and Redeemer Counseling Services
- Manage the administration of the Mercy Fund by evaluating financial requests and facilitating funds
- Maintain financial summary of Mercy Fund (i.e., gifts received, financial expenditures, funds available), and provide statistics re: how funds are used if requested.
- Experience and practical knowledge of the Diaconate required. The candidate must have a desire to see people grow in Christ, love for the Lord and core foundational beliefs with regard to the Christian faith along with the knowledge that God transforms lives.
- Must be committed to the life and work of Redeemer Downtown as a regular attender of the Sunday service.
- Minimum four years of college required.
- Social work and/or case management experience required. A theological or counseling degree from an accredited seminary preferred, but not required.
- Must be a dependable, team player with ability to take initiative and demonstrate strong communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, coupled with the ability to attract, equip, and mobilize lay leaders.
- Must be process-oriented with strong emotional intelligence
- Work hours are generally flexible yet must be available for some evenings and weekends.
- Must be open to becoming a member of Redeemer Downtown
