Description of Organization

Astoria Community Church (PCA) is a church of 145 members in New York City. We believe that God loves the Astoria neighborhood of Queens, NYC, and has raised up our church as a faithful, loving presence within it. Astoria is one of the most diverse neighborhoods in the United States, and our church reflects that diversity. Our members and attendees hail from all over the world, and it is common to find people who speak multiple languages in the congregation.

Our church mission is built around what Jesus called “the first and greatest commandment,” to
love the Lord our God with all our hearts, all our souls, and all our minds (Matthew 22:34-40).
The second commandment, “like unto it,” Jesus said, is to love our neighbors as ourselves.

We believe that learning and studying God’s Word is key to becoming the church we need to
be. In addition to biblical preaching and liturgy every Sunday, we have community groups that
meet every week to discuss the sermon and dig deeper into the Scriptural texts preached that
week. Those groups also prioritize prayer and fellowship, as we seek to love one another
faithfully and well.

We also talk of “disciple-making” being a core value at ACC. We want everyone in our
church to grow continually in the grace and knowledge of Christ. Because of this, we intend to
put much energy into Christian education and spiritual formation for our church members of all
ages.

God calls his people “to act justly and to love mercy” (Micah 6:8), and we see that call
extending beyond our local congregation toward all of those around us. We want to
demonstrate the kindness of God through works of service to our neighbors, especially those
who are poor, needy, or marginalized.
