Job Description:

POSITION SUMMARY 

The Senior Pastor exists to establish, communicate, and advance the vision, mission, core values, and witness of Christ Central by preaching and teaching, prayer, vision casting, leadership development, and shepherding the elders, deacons, shepherdesses, deaconesses, and staff. The Senior Pastor reports to the Session for supervision, accountability, encouragement, and support. In cases requiring further guidance or intervention, the Senior Pastor belongs to the North American Presbytery West of the Korean American Presbyterian Church (KAPC).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

Leadership, Management, and Strategic Planning (King) 

  • Together with the session, set the macro vision/direction for the church, ensuring its progress and implementation as well as actively identify key areas of need, growth, and opportunity for our church 
  • Set, exhibit, and protect gospel culture and relationships in leadership teams and ministries Collaboratively work with and lead the session in a spirit of unity as its moderator Actively manage the staff by providing guidance, mentorship, setting goals for spiritual and professional development, and conduct annual written performance reviews 
  • Collaboratively lead staff meetings 
  • Plan for and lead the annual officer and staff retreat for vision-casting and evaluation Oversee congregational meetings 
  • Set and manage the church budget with the diaconate and session based on value and vision Actively participate in presbytery and denomination events and initiatives 

Shepherding and Pastoral Care (Priest) 

  • Counsel and shepherd the officers (elders, deacons, shepherdesses, and deaconesses) and staff Manage the counseling and congregational care 
  • Oversee and facilitate crisis management for the church, including counseling members in emergency situations 
  • Facilitate care for other pastors in network and presbytery 

Preaching and Teaching (Prophet) 

  • Preach gospel-centered sermons 
  • Oversee the schedule and preparations of Sunday worship 
  • Review teaching and preaching of other associate pastors 
  • Oversee all officer trainings, membership classes, bible studies, and smaller worship settings 

Position Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES)

Educational Background 

  • Master of Divinity from an accredited seminary 
  • Minimum of 5 years of full time, ordained pastoral experience 
  • Ordained in the KAPC (or willing to transfer) 
  • Theological views that align with the Westminster Standards 
  • In-depth knowledge of reformed theology 

Leadership Development 

  • Demonstrated experience managing and motivating staff or volunteers 
  • Excellent leadership, interpersonal skills, as well as problem-solving and decision-making abilities Demonstrate a mature understanding and ability to work within a church environment, building strong relationships with leadership and members, and exhibit a humble, positive and non-cynical attitude toward colleagues and lay members 

Missional Focus 

  • Full commitment to CCSC’s vision, mission, and core values 
  • Gospel-centered preaching, teaching, and instructive skills/experience 

Character/Personal Qualities 

  • Prioritize personal devotional time in the Scriptures, life-long learning, and prayer 
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality at the highest level, demonstrate tact, diplomacy, and discernment 
  • Extensive experience and strong ability to counsel, including qualities of empathy, understanding, and genuine care for others 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 

Administrative 

  • Ability to learn and use church management software/technology 
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends and travel (as needed)
