Hello, I’m Ligon Duncan, and this is RTS Book Notes. Today, I want to tell you about a classic volume called The Christ of the Covenants. Dr. O. Palmer Robertson grew up at First Presbyterian Church in Jackson, Mississippi, and studied at Belhaven right after the school had become coed. He became a professor of Old Testament at Reformed Theological Seminary in Jackson, has taught at three other seminaries, and spent many, many years on the mission field in Africa. He’s written a whole series of books on covenant theology in the Old Testament, but this is the one that started it all: The Christ of the Covenants.
This book, along, probably, with the work of Meredith Kline, is responsible for the revival of covenant theology at the end of the 20th century. If you’re looking for a basic introduction to the idea of the covenants and the unfolding of redemptive history in the Bible, this is a great book to read. It’s published by our friends at P&R.
