The inaugural Hughes Preaching Lectures at Reformed Theological Seminary Orlando with Rev. Kevin DeYoung speaking to the subject of “How Can a Biblical Sermon Be So Boring?” Rev. DeYoung is Pastor of Christ Covenant Church in Matthews, NC, Assistant Professor of Systematic Theology at RTS Charlotte, and chairman of the board of the Gospel Coalition.

The fact that God has chosen to use preachers to make the gospel known suggests that he is interested in the skill and personality of the preacher. God could have dropped leaflets in Times New Roman font, but he uses men instead. By design, God employs the skills, gifts, and abilities of his servants to accomplish his purposes. So as preachers we ought to do all we can to preach God’s word winsomely and accurately. And we should try not to be boring.
