RTS Appoints Paul McNulty, Former Grove City College President and U.S. Deputy Attorney General, to Board of Trustees

JACKSON, Miss. — Reformed Theological Seminary (RTS) is pleased to announce the appointment of Paul J. McNulty to its Board of Trustees, adding a seasoned leader in Christian higher education and public service to the seminary’s governance.

McNulty served as the ninth president of Grove City College from 2014 until his retirement in 2025. His ties to the college run deep: he graduated in 1980 with a degree in history, taught as an adjunct instructor in political science from 1994 to 2001, served on its Board of Trustees from 2004 to 2014, and received an honorary doctorate in 2007.

Before his presidency, McNulty spent more than two decades in public service. As the 32nd Deputy Attorney General of the United States, he oversaw the day-to-day operations of a Department of Justice workforce of more than 100,000 employees and authored the “McNulty Memo,” a landmark policy on the prosecution of business organizations. He was confirmed as U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia shortly after September 11, 2001, and led the office through several of the nation’s most significant terrorism prosecutions. He previously spent 11 years as senior counsel in the U.S. House of Representatives, including a stint as director of legislative operations for the House Majority Leader.

McNulty later practiced law as a partner at Baker McKenzie, where he organized and led the firm’s global corporate compliance and investigations practice. He is widely recognized as an authority on business ethics and corporate governance and was listed by Ethisphere magazine among the “100 Most Influential People in Business Ethics.”

Richard Ridgway, chairman of the RTS Board of Trustees, said: “Paul has led with integrity in some of the most demanding roles in public life. His wisdom, sound judgment, and love for Christ and the church will be a tremendous asset to RTS.”

A native of Pittsburgh, Pa., McNulty earned his Juris Doctor from Capital University Law School. He was ordained as a ruling elder in the Presbyterian Church in America in 1986 and served as moderator of the Potomac Presbytery. He is currently a member of Redeemer Presbyterian Church in Charleston, S.C.

McNulty stated: “My years at Grove City College showed me how much is at stake in Christian higher education. Few institutions carry a responsibility as weighty as training those who will shepherd God’s people, and I am grateful for the opportunity to serve RTS as it carries out that calling.”

McNulty and his wife, Brenda, reside in Mount Pleasant, S.C. They have three daughters and a son, Joseph, who passed away in 2012. They also have seven grandchildren. Founded in 1966, RTS exists to serve the church by preparing its leaders through biblical fidelity, theological integrity, and a commitment to the global advancement of the gospel.
