Remembering Dr. Randy Newman

Surrounded by his family, Dr. Randy Newman was welcomed into the presence of his Savior on May 23, 2024. Known to be an excellent teacher and evangelist, many RTS students have benefited from his wisdom and instruction through his courses over the years.

Newman taught at the RTS campuses in Dallas and Washington, D.C., primarily on evangelism, a subject he knew much about.

“We are still staggering from the news that Dr. Randy Newman has gone home to be with the Lord. Randy was a dear friend and guest lecturer who has left an indelible mark on the students of RTS Washington, D.C. as well as RTS Dallas and other schools and organizations, most significantly the C.S. Lewis Institute,” said Dr. Scott Redd, president of RTS Washington, D.C. and executive director of RTS New York. “In addition to being a lovely soul in Christ, he was one of the most effective evangelists and teachers of evangelism that I have ever known, doing it all with a dry wit and compassionate heart. We will miss him dearly but take heart that he is with his king whom he dearly loved.”

Newman received a BS in Music Education from Temple University and a Master of Divinity degree from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. In 2015, he also completed the PhD program in Intercultural Studies at Trinity International University.

In addition to a depth of academic knowledge, he also possessed many years of vocational experience with over 30 years in campus ministry with Campus Crusade for Christ, and 10 years serving as a Senior Fellow for Apologetics and Evangelism at the C.S. Lewis Institute in Washington, DC. His teaching was impactful in many seminary classrooms, but he also was a gifted teacher at churches across the country, and he established Connection Points, a ministry to help Christians engage people’s hearts the way Jesus did. He has written several books and numerous articles about evangelism and other ways our lives intertwine with God’s creation.

Dr. Newman is survived by his wife, Pam, his three sons Dan (Kelsey), David (Jenny), and Jon (Emily), and five grandchildren. There will be a public memorial service on Saturday, July 13 at 1 p.m. at McLean Presbyterian Church in McLean, VA. In lieu of flowers, his family encourages donations to the Carson Center for Theological Renewal or the Fellowship for Performing Arts in Dr. Newman’s memory.
