McKelvey Appointed to Teach Old Testament

Reformed Theological Seminary is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Michael G. McKelvey as assistant professor of Old Testament at RTS Jackson. He will begin on January 1, 2014.

McKelvey is the pastor of Crosspoint Church of Asheville, NC, and previously pastored in Pennsylvania. He received a Doctor of Philosophy in Theology (Old Testament) from the University of Aberdeen, a Master of Divinity from RTS and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Mississippi College.

“We are truly grateful that God would add Dr. McKelvey to our excellent faculty at RTS Jackson,” said Guy Richardson, president of RTS/Jackson.  “His love for Christ, his passion for knowing and communicating God’s Word, and his engaging and gentle spirit to help others grow in the riches of God’s grace are evident to all who have had the privilege to be with him.  By God’s faithfulness, RTS has never wavered in its 47 years of existence in our mission to help supply competent and committed leaders for Christ’s Church. This man is yet another who exemplifies what we ask God to replicate in the lives of our students and be multiplied through them as they go forth to serve our living Savior.  We are truly excited to see how God will use this man as he joins us here in Jackson!”

Prior to joining the RTS faculty in a full-time capacity, he taught several Old Testament courses in Jackson from 2008-2013. His special interests include the Psalms, the prophets, and biblical theology.  He is currently working on a commentary on the book of Hosea (Evangelical Press).

He played football in college and was the Mississippi College football team captain and defensive MVP in 2000.

Having a heart for the church, Mike’s great focus and interest is the preaching of Jesus Christ. He and his wife Mary Alice have two children.
