Dr. Nicole Called Home to Glory

 
Dr. Roger Nicole went to be with the Lord this evening at 7:40 pm December 11, 2010 one day after turning 95 years of age. Born in 1915, he was a native Swiss Reformed theologian with an M.A. from Sorbonne, a Th.D. from Gordon Divinity School and a Ph.D. from Harvard University, Dr. Nicole has long been regarded as one of the preeminent theologians in America.
 
As a bibliophile and distinguished librarian, his personal collection includes Calvin’s Commentaries on the Gospels and Acts published during Calvin’s lifetime and many other rare volumes from the 1500s and 1600s. He was an associate editor for the New Geneva Study Bible and a corresponding editor for Christianity Today.

He assisted in the translation of the NIV Bible, is a past president of the Evangelical Theological Society, and was a founding member of the International Council on Biblical Inerrancy. He has written over 100 articles and contributed to 50 books and reference works. Students esteem him highly for his approachability and wisdom.

Dr. Nicole was Professor Emeritus at both Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary and Reformed Theological Seminary in Orlando Florida where his personal library of over 20,000 volumes make up a special collection at RTS.
