Dr. Guy Richard Promoted to Professor of Systematic Theology

ATLANTA, Ga. — Reformed Theological Seminary is pleased to announce that Dr. Guy Richard has been promoted from Associate Professor of Systematic Theology to Professor of Systematic Theology, effective June 1, 2026.

Dr. Richard has served as President of Reformed Theological Seminary (RTS) Atlanta since 2017 and as Executive Director of the RTS Nashville Extension since 2025. Throughout his tenure, he has provided steady institutional leadership while continuing to invest deeply in the classroom and in the lives of students preparing for ministry.

Prior to joining RTS Atlanta, Dr. Richard served for nearly twelve years as Senior Minister of First Presbyterian Church in Gulfport, Mississippi, where he shepherded the congregation through the aftermath and rebuilding efforts following Hurricane Katrina. An ordained teaching elder in the Presbyterian Church in America, he has also taught for RTS in various capacities since 2010.

This promotion recognizes years of faithful academic service and meaningful leadership within RTS.”

Dr. Richard’s academic interests include systematic theology, Samuel Rutherford, the Westminster Standards, and Reformation and post-Reformation theology. He is the author of several books, including Persistent Prayer, Baptism: Answers to Common Questions, and What Is Faith?, in addition to numerous scholarly and popular-level articles.

Dr. Richard earned a Bachelor of Industrial Engineering (B.I.E.) from Auburn University, a Master of Divinity (M.Div.) from Reformed Theological Seminary, and a Ph.D. from The University of Edinburgh.

Known for his pastoral warmth, theological clarity, and steady leadership, Dr. Richard continues to serve the church through teaching, writing, conference speaking, and mentoring students preparing for ministry. He and his wife, Jennifer, have three children.
