Job Title:

Teaching Assistant: Greyfriars Classical Academy

Job Description:

Greyfriars is undertaking a Teaching Assistant (TA) pilot program for the 2025-2026 academic year. We are seeking to assist our teachers by hiring a TA who will assist with grading on an hourly basis.  First-year TAs will be paid $18.50 per hour. TAs in the first year with a teacher ordinarily will be required to sit in on all classes with the teacher and students, and will be compensated by the school for those hours, in addition to hours spent grading. If a TA returns to the same course and teacher for a second year, sitting in on classes will be at the direction of the teacher.

Position Qualifications:

TA positions are available to anyone with at least a bachelor’s degree, although the degree does not need to be in the same subject area being taught. Sufficient knowledge of subject is required via prior course work, prior experience, etc. Teaching experience is not required, as a TA will not be expected to teach (although with the approval of the high school director, TAs are permitted to substitute teach, or to do a limited amount of teaching under the supervision of the regular teacher).

Description of Organization

Greyfriars is a Christian high school (grades 9-12) in Matthews, NC, that is structured like a college and offers students the flexibility of both full-time and part-time (homeschool) enrollment options. Our experienced faculty members provide university-quality instruction in which the grammar (fundamental facts and rules), logic (ordered relationships), and rhetoric (expression of ideas in speech and writing) of each subject is emphasized from a decidedly biblical worldview. The high school curriculum is academically rigorous and consistent with North Carolina standards and college preparatory requirements. Greyfriars offers classes in a university-style format (three days a week on campus; two days a week working at home), with most classes taught in blocks of 1 hour and 15 minutes each.  Individual courses typically meet for class once a week (1/2 credit), twice a week (1 credit) or all three days each week (mathematics, 1 credit, which meets for 1 hour per day). We also have a separate homeschool Tutorial Program for grades K - 8.
