Student Ministry Lead

Job Description:

The Student Ministry Lead will direct and oversee Back Creek Church’s ministry to middle and high school students (6th – 12th grade), and help us reach and serve young adults as well. Recognizing that students are not merely the future of the church but a vital part of it today, the Student Ministry Lead will work in partnership with the Student Ministry Committee (SMC) and under the oversight of the Session to support the spiritual, relational, and missional growth of students.

Key Responsibilities:

Discover

• Build relationships with students, their parents, the Student Ministry Committee, church staff, and team members.
• Determine team roles and recruit volunteers to serve the ministry.
• With the SMC, establish target outreach demographics and envision what a successful alum of Back Creek Students looks like.

Develop

• Discipleship: Lead students through regular programming, events, retreats, conferences, and service opportunities.
• Develop a welcoming climate where students feel they belong.
• Train and disciple both student leaders and adult team members.
• Collaborate with the SMC to develop the programs, curriculum, retreats, conferences, and discipleship strategies that best serve students’ growth.
• Serve as the primary teacher for Student Ministry, selecting curriculum that is aligned with the vision.
• Create an environment that encourages students to bring friends, regardless of where they are on their faith journey.
• Young Adult Ministry: In coordination with the session identify opportunities to develop and oversee a ministry specifically for young adults

Deploy

• Empower Team Members: Empower adult leaders to take active roles in discipling students, running programs, and teaching.
• Empower student leaders to use their gifts to serve within the Student Ministry and the broader church community.
• Encourage students to invite, evangelize, and disciple their peers.
• Engage students with missional opportunities both inside and outside the church.

Leadership

• Prayer: Regularly pray with and for students, their families, team members, and the church community.
• Modeling: Set a consistent example of Christ-like behavior and leadership to those under your care.

Communication

• Maintain consistent communication with students, families, ministry team members, and the church staff.
• Submit announcements for church publications in a timely manner.
• Attend all staff, committee, and team meetings to contribute effectively to the overall church mission.
Teamwork
• Coordinate efforts with the Student Ministry Committee, ministry teams, church staff, Session, and diaconate.
• Assist with other church ministries as needed (e.g., music, children’s ministry, adult ministry).

Attitude and Conduct

• Maintain a consistently upbeat and encouraging demeanor.
• Serve others with humility, considering others more significant than oneself (Philippians 2:3).
• Visibly embrace and embody the mission, values, vision, and strategic priorities of Back Creek Church.

Budget Management

• Manage the budget allocated to Student Ministry, ensuring all resources are used effectively.
• Plan budget requests for subsequent years, aligning with ministry goals and strategic priorities.

 

Position Qualifications:

  • Personal Faith: Strong, vibrant relationship with Christ; commitment to the Bible as the true and trustworthy Word of God.
  • Theological Alignment: Embrace Reformed faith as expressed in the Westminster Standards.
  • Education: Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree.
  • Experience: Demonstrated experience in student ministry leadership, discipleship, and development of both students and leaders.
  • Skills: Strong ability to connect with students, enthusiasm for Student Ministry, experience in leadership, organization, communication, team management, and recruiting.
  • Commitment: Willingness to serve Christ and His church, collaborate with church staff, and help others grow spiritually and relationally.
