Student Ministries Pastor: South Baptist Church
Job Description:
The servant in this position is to be an enhancement to the ministry of South Baptist Church and a support to the ministerial team by coordinating a passionate ministry devoted to students (middle school, high school, college) and their families. He shall seek to partner with parents and trained volunteers to disciple students to become fully functioning members in the body of Christ.
He will have to meet the spiritual requirements as outlined in I Timothy 3 and Titus 1.
He will have a “team worker” mindset, in that he desires to work alongside the other ministry staff for the benefit of the ministry. Chemistry is just as important as competency! Therefore, we prioritize the chemistry of our staff for the success of our church.
He will have an ability to connect relationally with parents, students and church members.
He will have good teaching and communication skills.
Primary Responsibility – Student Ministry: Because our students are the future of the church, leadership in this area will require:
Tender and wise pastoring of all students of the church. (ages 12 through 22 numbering around 40)
Overseeing a weekly youth service (grades 6-12) that is worshipful, innovative, relevant, and effective in instructing, training, and nurturing; utilizing our newly renovated facilities dedicated to students.
Being readily available to counsel students and/or their parents regarding life and parenting issues and identifying and nurturing connections to resources and networks related to counseling/intervention.
Designing effective programs and activities where the students can use their abilities, talents, and spiritual gifts to minister to others as service unto the Lord.
Coordinating outings, retreats, and other activities that students will enjoy, but that can also be used as outreach.
Seeking out lay-leadership and effectively training them with regular meetings throughout the year so that they might work with the students and parents as part of a ministry team.
Employing initiatives of encouragement and gratitude toward lay-leaders.

Position Qualifications:
1. Spiritual Qualifications
-
Mature Christian faith and a strong, growing relationship with Jesus Christ.

Calling to youth ministry—a sense of God’s direction toward working with young people.

Commitment to Scripture and agreement with the church’s statement of faith and doctrine.

A reputation of integrity, humility, and servant leadership.
2. Educational Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s degree in theology, ministry, biblical studies, or a related field (often required).

Master’s degree in divinity (MDiv), theology, or youth ministry (preferred but not always necessary, especially for larger or more theologically conservative churches).

Ongoing continuing education or certification in youth ministry (beneficial).
3. Experience Requirements

Previous experience in student ministry (typically 2–5 years minimum).

Proven ability to lead and develop programs for middle and high school students.

Experience in mentoring and discipling youth.

Demonstrated ability to equip and lead volunteers or ministry teams.
4. Leadership and Ministry Skills
-
Strong teaching and communication skills geared toward youth.
-
Ability to relate well to students, parents, and church leadership.
-
Organizational skills to manage events, retreats, Bible studies, and service projects.

Comfortable with digital tools and social media as ministry platforms.

Passion for evangelism and discipleship within the youth community.
