Senior Pastor: Hillcrest Baptist Church
Job Description:
The Senior Pastor shall serve as the under-shepherd and overseer of Hillcrest Baptist Church, feeding, leading and nurturing the congregation. His main responsibilities will be to communicate God’s Word, minister to spiritual needs and provide biblical leadership for the church.
Provide leadership and vision for the church. Direct plans for ministry and church growth, develop and fine tune the church structure based on the team philosophy of
ministry.
Motivate, equip and nurture the people of Hillcrest through example, preaching, fellowship and teaching God’s Word and spiritual counseling.
Spend significant time in prayer and Bible study.
Contact/visit hospitalized or grieving church members.
Officiate at weddings and funerals.
Provide premarital counseling, counseling regarding salvation and spiritual issues and other counseling for church members as time permits.
Perform sacraments such as communion and baptism.
Oversee church discipline and manage conflict in the church. Seek to reconcile relationships and promote unity within the church.
Participate in evangelism efforts through preaching and giving invitations during worship services, revival or other special services, visitation and other church outreach efforts.

Position Qualifications:
1. Biblical Qualifications
Most churches draw from 1 Timothy 3:1–7 and Titus 1:5–9 for the foundational qualifications of a pastor. These include:
Above reproach – a person of strong character and reputation.
Faithful to their spouse – moral integrity, especially in marriage.
Temperate and self-controlled – not given to extremes, disciplined.
Respectable and hospitable – a good example and welcoming.
Able to teach – doctrinally sound and skilled in communicating God’s Word.
Not violent but gentle – a peacemaker, not easily angered.
Not quarrelsome or a lover of money – content and peaceable.
Manages own family well – spiritual leadership starts at home.
Not a recent convert – spiritually mature.
Good reputation with outsiders – respected even beyond the church.
2. Spiritual Qualifications
Genuine relationship with Christ – ongoing spiritual growth and dependence on God.
Prayerful and discerning – relies on God’s guidance.
Sound theology – a clear understanding of Christian doctrine and Scripture.
Anointing and calling – a clear sense of God’s call to pastoral ministry.
3. Educational Qualifications
Many churches require or prefer:
Bachelor’s Degree in Ministry, Theology, or Bible (minimum).
Master of Divinity (M.Div.) or equivalent – especially in mainline or larger evangelical churches.
Ordination or denominational credentialing – depending on affiliation.
4. Leadership and Ministry Experience
Proven experience in pastoral leadership, often as an associate pastor or in another senior leadership role.
Vision casting and strategic leadership – able to lead the church forward.
Preaching and teaching – biblically sound, engaging, and relevant.
Team building and staff oversight – leads staff and volunteers effectively.
Conflict resolution and counseling – shepherding skills.
