Job Title:
Pastoral Intern: Resurrection Presbyterian Church
Job Description:
The internship program at RPC exists to build up pastors who will serve God’s people through
preaching, teaching, leading, and shepherding. This program, intended for men who are preparing for
pastoral ministry in the PCA, offers hands-on experience in the life of a local congregation in Puyallup,
Washington, 40 miles south of Seattle.
The internship is designed to work with the Master of Divinity program at Reformed Theological
Seminary. Our goal is to equip the intern for future service in the Lord’s kingdom, as he prepares for a
lifetime of pastoral ministry. The Intern may become a candidate and intern of the Pacific Northwest
Presbytery, and complete an internship as required by the Presbytery. Alternatively, he may work to
complete the internship requirements of the Presbytery in which he is a candidate, subject of the
approval of that Presbytery. The internship is designed to maximize the learning and practical pastoral
skills of the intern, and to assist RPC in conducting meaningful ministry.
Ideally the intern will specialize in at least two of the following areas:
Children’s ministry & Sunday School; Youth ministry; Men’s Ministry; Evangelism (e.g. one idea would be to lead a Christianity Explored or 3-2-1 course); Community Groups
Dates: September 1, 2025, through August 2026 (depending on the intern’s need to get back in time for
seminary classes)
Time requirements
The Internship is designed to be 25/hours per week, 50 weeks per year, with 2 weeks paid vacation.
The church understands the rigors of a full-time seminary load and will be flexible during busier weeks
in the seminary schedule such as mid-terms or final exams.
Expectations
Expectations can be refined in conjunction with the requirements for a Presbytery internship from the
intern’s local Presbytery.
Weekly: Attend Sunday worship; Attend staff meetings; Meet weekly with Pastor David to discuss life & ministry; Take a day off (finding rest in ministry is important); Attend men’s Bible study; Participate in elder zoom calls (as scheduled) and in-person session meetings
Bi-Weekly or Monthly: Participate in a community group; Attend session meetings; Do assigned readings and discuss with Pastor David (choices of books/topics TBD); Provide a short (1-2 page) written summary of ministry (tasks accomplished, lessons, etc.); Explore somewhere new (new hike, new coffee shop, etc.); Attend at least one presbytery meeting (February, May, October)
Position Qualifications:
A vital and active relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ
