Job Description:

Beverly Hills Baptist Church in Asheville NC is seeking a full-time Pastor for our moderate, congregationally led church. Our church subscribes to the Baptist Faith and Message of 1963 with women participating in leadership roles such as deacon. We have a terrific location and a great building, but like many churches of our kind, are experiencing challenges relating to culture and change. We need a pastor with vision and creativity to lead us as we strive to follow God’s Kingdom plans as we seek to reach and serve those around us. Seminary training is preferred as is some pastoral experience, but we are open to God’s leadership as He provides the person needed to guide our church.

Biblical Qualifications

1 Timothy 3:1–7:

  • Above reproach

  • Faithful to his wife (or “the husband of one wife”)

  • Temperate

  • Self-controlled

  • Respectable

  • Hospitable

  • Able to teach

  • Not given to drunkenness

  • Not violent but gentle

  • Not quarrelsome

  • Not a lover of money

  • Manages his own family well

  • Has obedient and respectful children

  • Not a recent convert

  • Has a good reputation with outsiders

Titus 1:5–9:

  • Blameless

  • Faithful to his wife

  • A man whose children believe and are not wild or disobedient

  • Not overbearing

  • Not quick-tempered

  • Not given to drunkenness

  • Not violent

  • Not pursuing dishonest gain

  • Hospitable

  • Loves what is good

  • Self-controlled, upright, holy, and disciplined

  • Holds firmly to sound doctrine

  • Able to encourage others by sound doctrine and refute those who oppose it

  • A clear personal relationship with Jesus Christ

  • Spiritual maturity and ongoing growth

Professional/Practical Qualifications

  • Ability to preach and teach the Bible accurately and effectively

  • Leadership and administrative ability

  • Pastoral care skills (counseling, visitation, discipleship)

  • Educational background (many churches require a seminary degree, though not all)

  • Experience in ministry (can vary based on the church’s needs)

  • Ability to work with others (staff, elders, congregation)
