ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

A. Discipleship Program

  1. Evaluate our present programs for maturing students.
  2. Develop relationships with and examine the ministry and programs of other churches and parachurch groups. Use local and national networks.
  3. Develop a ministry strategy for Sunday mornings, Wednesday nights and other discipleship programs. Present findings and strategy to the Discipleship Zone Elders.
  4. Have weekly meetings in small groups to help mature them in their faith and to challenge them to a greater commitment to Christ. Our goal is to challenge youth to deepen their understanding and relationship with God. Not only do we want to see them involved in Sunday morning and Wednesday night worship time, but also our discipleship program. Staff should be working close to youth to encourage them to better their walk with Christ.
  5. Plan necessary activities, trips, events, etc. to complement your goals.

B. Create and Promote “Relational Evangelism”

  1. Begin a Contact Ministry that includes sporting events, plays, special school events, etc.
  2. Develop a plan for entry level church activities, events and programs.
  3. Train and equip youth to do evangelism via an Evangelism Explosion type program.

C. Recruiting and Training Youth Workers

  1. Maintain a relationship with adult peer group.
  2. Recruit and train adult/parents for youth ministry via Small Group.
  3. Inform parents through monthly newsletter, personal letters/calls of ongoing youth programs, plans, and activities.
  4. Train and equip students to move into the roll of leadership within the ministry via Leadership Team.

D. Outreach and Growth Trips

  1. Junior High missions and activities
    a. The purpose of an Activity is to provide Christian fellowship with our youth and provide an avenue for youth to reach out to their friends.
    b. The purpose of Mission trips is to serve, evangelize, and minister to the unchurched world, gain an understanding of the need for missions and increase or develop awareness for missions.
  2. There are two major trips in the summer for the Junior High. There will be times when staff will be asked to assist in trips outside of their ministry. The trips are designed for growth in those who are Christians and outreach to the lost.

II. Reporting and Working Relationships

A. Because of our desire to provide direction, promote job excellence and remain accountable, the youth minister will report to the Associate Pastor and the Discipleship Zone Elders.

B. The youth minister will be provided with an office and the necessary essentials to conduct youth ministry in the church. Work hours are non-conventional and often more than 40 hours per week. Church office hours are 8:30-5:00, Monday through Friday. The youth minister will be allowed one day off during the week. Description of Organization

Grace Evan is a non-denominational church, however, our Sr. Pastor and Assoc. Pastor are RTS grads and members of the PCA. We are located in Germantown, TN which is a suburb of Memphis, and we have 1500 attend on Sunday mornings. Our Reason for Being: "Reaching an unchurched world through maturing Christians." By declaring, defining and exploring the Word of God, we hope to see Christians being used of God to make an impact on their sphere of influence. By that we mean this: We are mandated to reach our lost and dying culture, and we feel that the best way to do that is via maturing Christians. Consequently, our intention is to so feed our flock, that they may become involved in the process of reaching the lost for Jesus Christ. We are not an evangelistic crusade, but very evangelistic. We are not a charismatic renewal, but very eager to follow the leadership of the Holy Spirit. We are an organism seeking to train up her people, to grow up her flock, to so feed and nourish the sheep, that they become "witnesses for Christ" in the fullest sense of the term.
