Jr. Staff Counselor/Pastoral Intern: Boardwalk Chapel (Presbytery of New Jersey & Puerto Rico, OPC)
Job Description:
The Boardwalk Chapel is an evangelistic ministry of the Presbytery of New Jersey & Puerto Rico in Wildwood, NJ. It is a summer ministry located on the Jersey shore, with a two-fold purpose: 1) to proclaim Christ to the lost through Gospel preaching and personal evangelism and 2) to help encourage, train and equip the church in evangelism. The Male Junior-Staff Counselor/Pastoral Internship is a full-time paid summer internship. The Junior Staff Counselor oversees 4-8 young men (high school age) who are are serving on the Boardwalk Chapel Junior-Staff program (which runs from late June to mid August). While the junior staff take part in various aspects of the Boardwalk Chapel ministry and receive training from our other leaders, the Junior Staff counselor is responsible for their personal discipleship. The intern also has opportunity to gain other pastoral ministry experience according to gifts and desires.
Primary Internship Responsibilities and Experiences:
- Leads male junior staff (high school) in daily 1-hour group discipleship
- Counsels and encourages junior staff individually as needed
- Manages the house-life of the junior staff
- Leads staff dinner devotions (1-2 evenings per week)
Additional responsibilities and opportunities (according to gifting and interest):
- Preaches in local churches on Lord’s Days (2-6 Sundays, depending on interest and availability)
- Assists in the leading Lord’s Day Evening Worship (weekly)
- Available for informal counseling as needed among regular staff men (college age and up)
- Receives training in evangelism and participates in evangelistic ministry
Position Qualifications:
This position is ideally for a seminarian (MDiv or Counseling). The intern should have a heart for ministering to youth, and have some experience in discipling or leading others. The Junior Staff counselor would also ideally have some prior training in pastoral or Biblical counseling (for example a practical theology or counseling course).
