Director of Children’s Ministry: Galloway Memorial United Methodist Church
Job Description:
Spiritual Formation & Program Leadership:
- Lead and coordinate a comprehensive spiritual formation program for children, including:
- Sunday School (year-round)
- Children’s Church (for 4- and 5-year-olds, year-round)
- Vacation Bible School (one week in summer)
- Confirmation (January through May)
- Wednesday Night Summit (during the school year)
- Provide spiritual guidance to children, ministry leaders, parents, and guardians.
- Plan, evaluate, and communicate children’s ministry programs and events.
Communication & Engagement:
- Provide information about children’s ministry events for the church’s monthly “Spotlight” publication.
- Communicate weekly with parents about programming, special events, and ways to incorporate spiritual formation at home.
- Attend children’s daycare, school, scouting, and off-site activities as much as possible.
Worship & Outreach:
- Participate in weekly worship planning and lead teaching time for children during worship services.
- Work with the Director of Worship Arts to incorporate children into worship, music programs, and related activities.
- Conduct hospital visitations for children in the congregation, including newborns, and share new parent/baby information with the Senior Pastor and staff.
- Engage in church outreach and evangelism, particularly targeting young families.
Leadership & Volunteer Management:
- Supervise and train the Nursery Coordinator and nursery workers; assist as needed.
- Recruit, train, and retain volunteers for children’s ministry activities.
- Serve as an advocate for children, ensuring their concerns are communicated to the pastoral staff, congregation, and relevant community or government organizations.
Safety & Administration:
- Implement policies and procedures to ensure a safe environment for children.
- Work closely with the Childcare Center staff to coordinate events, policies, and facilities use.
- Assist with setting and managing the children’s ministry budget.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervising pastor.
Position Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in children’s ministry.
- A degree in Christian education, United Methodist-focused education, or a related field is preferred.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus but not required.
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong leadership and administrative abilities.
- Passion for evangelism and shepherding children.
- Ability to develop long-term ministry vision.
- Strong organizational and delegation skills.
- Excellent communication skills (written and oral).
- Ability to train and lead volunteers effectively.
- Creative and innovative event planning abilities.
- Comfortable using technology and social media for ministry purposes.
Personal & Theological Qualifications:
- Love for the Lord and commitment to making disciples of Jesus Christ.
- Joyful and passionate about leading children to Christ.
- Ability to work collaboratively with staff and lay leaders.
- Adaptable, self-motivated, and works well independently.
Hours & Compensation:
- Full-time schedule (including Sundays and some evening events).
- Salary commensurate with experience and education.
