Bookstore Manager at RTS Jackson

Job Description:

The Bookstore Manager reports directly to the Director of Operations. This is a part-time staff position, which works a maximum of 29 hours per week. The bookstore is looking for an organized, detail-oriented manager to support everyday operations at the Bookstore at RTS. This role involves assisting customers, managing inventory, overseeing student workers, and handling various bookkeeping tasks. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of ordering materials for sale, office management, customer service, creating reports and maintaining the bookstore’s coffee bar.

Responsibilities and Requirements:

  • Ordering of materials for sale.
  • Order required texts for students.
  • Maintain a selection of reformed classics, new releases, and resources for theological studies.
  • Order additional books/resources targeting external audiences (RTS friends, alumni, donors, and supporting churches).
  • Supervision of student workers
  • Schedule and train student workers.
  • Customer service.
  • Maintain regular hours of operation for retail sales.
  • Assist customers with title selection, topics, and textbooks.
  • Prepare reports for accounting purposes, including accounts receivable and accounts payable.
  • Provide reports on current inventory, sales revenues, student purchases, and invoices for materials.
  • Submit monthly sales reports, deposits, and institutional/student charges at the beginning of each month.
  • Meet the needs of scholarship students by acquiring and shipping items for their online orders.
  • Maintain the bookstore’s craft coffee bar (stock coffee beans, cups, etc.).
  • Brew cold brew, pour over, and AeroPress coffee on request.

Position Qualifications:

Qualifications, Education, and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Excellent customer service, computer, and organizational skills
  • Experience working in a bookstore preferred
  • Supervisory experience preferred

 

Cognitive and Physical Demands

  • Train and oversee all bookstore responsibilities.
  • Computer work, screen time, keyboarding, typing, wrist flexing/extension and other repetitive movements.
  • Professional judgment in alignment with organizational values and policies is required.
  • Effective communication, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to train student workers in proper policies and procedures.
  • Kneeling, standing, reaching, twisting, grasping, and lifting (up to 15 pounds).
