Associate Pastor Profile

Primary Responsibilities
1. DISCIPLE – To develop and oversee the many discipleship opportunities of the church body.
2. EVANGELIZE – To promote obedience to the Great Commission in its totality at home and abroad.
3. ASSIMILATE – To encourage all members, but especially disconnected members, as well as visitors and
regular attenders to become faithful participants in the life of the church body.
4. ADMINISTRATE – To oversee and organize the resources and activities of the church body in order to
maximize the effect of its ministry, and to ensure that its ministry endeavors are carried out in a biblical,
efficient, and charitable manner.

Specific Tasks
1. Discipleship
a. Oversee Sunday School, Mid-week service, Men’s Ministry, Women’s Ministry, Youth group, and
Children’s ministries. This oversight will include recruitment and training of teachers, evaluating curricula,
and scheduling classes and events.
b. Teach as the candidate sees fit.
c. Preach on a regular schedule (frequency to be determined, but will likely involve 12-24 sermons annually).
2. Evangelism
a. Model personal evangelism
b.Train the church Body to effectively and zealously engage in evangelizing unbelievers.
3. Assimilation
a. Help members grow in the use of their spiritual gifting, and connect people with opportunities for using
those spiritual gifts in the context of our church Body.
b. Help visitors and regular attenders better understand the Reformed Faith.
4. Administration
a. Oversee the auxiliary staff of the church (currently includes 1 secretary) and its various committees
(currently includes Missions Committee, Women’s Steering Committee, Youth Committee, and Budget
Committee).
b. Oversee the planning of the church calendar and the uses to which the church building and associated
properties may be put.
c. Develop and implement guidelines and procedures to ensure the church operates with propriety,
consistency, and efficiency.
d. Attend stated and called Session meetings.

Other Tasks (Optional: if candidate possesses the requisite skills, some of the following tasks may be
added to or replace some of the previously mentioned tasks):
1. Directing Music.
2. Leading Worship.
3. Training and Overseeing Audio/Visual Team.
4. Editing Audio for Podcast and Radio Broadcast.

Responsibilities Shared with the Session (Extracted from the Book of Church Order)
1. To discharge all those duties which private Christians, by the law of love, are bound to.
2. To determine the best measures for promoting the spiritual interests of the church and congregation.
3. To exercise government and discipline, and take oversight not only of the spiritual interests of the particular church, but also the Church generally when called thereunto.
4. To ensure that the Word of God is preached only by such men as are sufficiently qualified.
5. To visit the people at their homes, especially the sick.
6. To see that parents do not neglect to present their children for Baptism.
7. To receive members into the communion of the Church.
8. To censure those found delinquent.
9. To remove members from the communion of the Church for just cause.
10. To grant letters of dismissal to other churches, which when given to parents, shall always include the
names of their non-communing, baptized children.
11. To set a worthy example to the flock by their zeal to evangelize the unconverted, make disciples, and
demonstrate hospitality.
12. To promote world missions.
13. To examine, ordain, and install ruling elders and deacons on their election by the church, and to require
these officers to devote themselves to their work.
14. To examine the records of the proceedings of the deacons.
15. To approve and adopt the budget.
16. To approve actions of special importance affecting church property.
17. To order collections for pious uses.
18. To call congregational meetings when necessary.
19. To observe and carry out the lawful injunctions of the higher courts.
20. To appoint representatives to the higher courts, who shall, on their return, make report of their diligence.

Position Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifcations
1. Master of Divinity degree (or its equivalent).
2.Ordained (or ordainable) in the Presbyterian Church in America.
3. Married (preferred, not required).
4. 3-5 years of experience in pastoral ministry, with 3 years of service in a single location.

Grace Church is a congregation of the Presbyterian Church in America and a member of the Catawba Valley
Presbytery. We are currently searching for a man to serve as our next Associate Pastor. We are a medium size church in Harrisburg, a suburb near Charlotte, North Carolina. Our mission is to passionately proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ as it is revealed in the Bible.
