9th Grade Math (Geometry) Teacher: The Geneva School

Job Description:

Hired by and subject to the supervision of the Director of the Rhetoric School (grades 9 -12), the
9th Grade Math Teacher is an exempt position. The teacher, in a formational and relational role,
models Christ-like behavior within The Geneva School community as he or she studies, re-
imagines, and teaches within the Christian, liberal arts tradition.

Essential Duties

The Geneva School geometry teacher instructs students in geometric concepts as well as critical
thinking and problem-solving skills. Responsibilities include developing lesson plans, assessing
student progress, and fostering a positive learning environment.

Specific Job Responsibilities:

  • Classroom Instruction and Planning: Develop and deliver engaging lessons that are
    aligned with the school’s curriculum standards and cover essential geometric concepts.
  • Assessment and Feedback: Regularly assessing student understanding and progress through
    a variety of methods, including tests (assessments), quizzes, homework, and presentations.
    Providing support and constructive feedback in order to improve student understanding and
    mastery of the math material. Tracking student progress and identifying areas where students
    may need additional support.
  • Classroom Environment: Maintaining a positive and productive learning environment.
    Addressing student behavior issues in accordance with the school’s policies and practices.
    Skillfully managing a classroom of high school students with varying academic skills.
  • Communication: Providing feedback to students, parents, and administration regarding
    student performance. Posting grades and assignments in a timely manner and corresponding
    or conversing regularly with student’s parents regarding student progress or concerns.
  • Collaboration: Participating in faculty meetings and collaborative planning sessions.

  • Lift 20 lbs. occasionally and 10 lbs. frequently
  • Sit frequently and stand and walk on varied surfaces

  • Use hands/arms to reach in any direction and seize, grasp, hold, and turn objects using
    hand(s). Use fingers, versus the whole hand, to pick, pinch, and feel objects.
  • See, talk, and hear to communicate with others in person, electronically, by phone, or by
    radio. Visual functions include the ability to identify and distinguish colors and bring an
    object into sharp focus.

  • Subject Matter Expertise: Deep understanding of geometry concepts and principles. Able
    to convey these clearly and engagingly while tailoring the language level to suit the needs of
    students.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to help students develop critical thinking and problem-
    solving skills.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to articulate complex ideas clearly, both verbally and in
    writing.
  • Teaching Experience: Proven ability to effectively deliver lessons and engage high school
    students in active learning.
  • Classroom Management: Establish a positive and supportive learning environment that
    encourages discussion, questions, and constructive feedback. Utilize effective classroom
    management strategies to maintain student focus and accountability.
  • Professional Development: Partner with colleagues to share best practices and enhance
    student success.
  • Relevant Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics or a related field from an accredited
    institution. Master’s degree preferred.
