Join us for the first lecture of the Institute for the Study of Ancient Texts (ISAT) at RTS Orlando. We will welcome Jacob Matulia (Ph.D. cand., Yeshiva University; MPhil, Cambridge University) for a lecture entitled “What is Hebrew Diachrony and Why Is It Important?”
Most people probably think of Hebrew as one big, uniform “thing.” But if that’s not true of English or Spanish today, why would it be true of Hebrew? There is surprisingly a lot of diversity in the language during the biblical period and afterwards. By studying Hebrew in the OT as well as inscriptions and later literature, we can gain a better understanding of how it developed over time—and why that matters as students of God’s word.
ISAT is a new RTS institute led by Drs. Lanier, Cole, Reid, Kruger, and Ross that aims to equip students and the church in the fields related to ancient texts and manuscripts. Find more information here.
