Join students and faculty at Reformed Theological Seminary, Orlando, for a presentation by Dr. Jonathan Linebaugh, lecturer in New Testament at Jesus College of the University of Cambridge. Learn more about Dr. Linebaugh’s publications and areas of expertise here.

The 2022 Cranmer Lecture will be titled, “Comfortable Words: Praying and Proclaiming the Gospel in the English Reformation.” The heart of the English Reformation, according to Winston Churchill, was the reformation of the human heart – hearts that are troubled and weary, and hearts that are, by the mercy of God, unburdened and set free. Across a range of sources, from the personal stories of Katherine Parr and  Thomas Bilney to the sermons of Hugh Latimer and the prayerbooks of Thomas Cranmer, the bedrock of the Reformation in England was  the praying and proclaiming of the gospel that says, in Cranmer’s phrase, “Hear what comfortable words our Lord Jesus saith.” These words  are spoken in the context of an honest encounter with human suffering and need, but these words are finally “comfortable” because they  have Christ who “came into the world to save sinners” and who says “come unto me… and I will give you rest.”

Refreshments will be served following the lecture, and campus tours will be available to anyone interested in learning more about the work of the Seminary. There is no cost for this event.

Please RSVP here by December 30th, 2021.
