Job Description:
Our Purpose: To make disciples together.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY: To partner with the pastor in making and multiplying disciples through the ministries of Good News Church.
AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY: Disciple-making, member care, assimilation, staff development, teaching and preaching.
● Model disciple making by discipling 6-12 people on an on-going basis.
● Be a resource to staff and others who are engaged in disciple making.
● Lead a team to assimilate guests and new members into biblical community and the disciple-making pathway.
Build a disciple making ministry with others through environments to WIN, BUILD, EQUIP, and MULTIPLY:
Win: is personally engaged in pursuing the lost and inviting others to fish with them. This is not about solo evangelism—it’s about modeling and multiplying that lifestyle.
Build: create environments and relationships where people grow in their love for Jesus, experience gospel transformation, and are rooted in biblical community (small groups).
Equip: develop strategies to help gospel partners discover their gifts, develop them, and use them in ministry—especially in the context of teams.
Multiply: we want this person to actively raise up new leaders and disciple-makers, with an eye toward sending—not just sustaining.
Preach/teach regularly, and host on Sunday mornings on a regular basis.
CORPORATE: To be a good steward of resources.
Participate in staff activities by coming prepared to interact and share ideas.
Be diligent and timely in completing administrative tasks.
Help with anything else requested as time permits.
Position Qualifications:
Qualifications for Assistant Pastor
Character – Is an evangelist (heart for the lost), is Gospel centered, controlled by the love of Christ, humble, joyful, sense of humor, demonstrates passion for making disciples. Qualifications for an elder as found in Scripture (1 Timothy 3; Titus 1).
Chemistry – A team player with strong relational skills, is quick to listen and slow to respond, leadable, flexible, has led teams, able to set goals and work with and trust respective staff and volunteers to make it happen.
Competency – Master of Divinity. PCA ordained or has a desire to be ordained. Effective communicator from the stage. Able to embrace the purpose, core values and philosophy of ministry of Good News. Able to reproduce vision in others. A disciple maker. Can communicate up and down the organization. Can identify opportunities and develop solutions.
Experience:
Ministry in a local church or parachurch organization.
Experience managing and leading teams of leaders and volunteers.
Partnering with others to make disciples.
