Job Description:

The Music Director helps to fulfill the purpose of CCC by coordinating, developing and leading the music ministry, as determined and directed by the lead pastor.

Position Qualifications:

Qualifications            

  1. Demonstrates spiritual maturity, godliness and consistent growth that supports the work and worship of the church through active involvement in congregational life, including weekend worship, discipleship and service.
  2. Is musically talented and discerning, as well as being theologically engaged and devoted.
  3. Capable of speaking and singing in public. Can accompany themselves, primarily on guitar and possibly the keyboard.
  4. Understands the theological and biblical importance of music in a corporate worship service, especially the value of congregational singing in which each member of the body is able to hear and be built up by the sound of members singing to one another (Ephesians 5:19).
  5. Meets the qualifications of CCC’s by-laws, Section VII D #’s 1-4.
  6. Agrees with the church’s theological position and philosophy of education.
  7. Exemplifies an attitude of humble servant-heartedness, a commitment to learn, and a willingness to “stretch” and take on challenges to meet the needs of the church and develop in ministry.
  8. Works well with people and adapts to the needs of ministry to foster the purpose of the church.
  9. Can direct and develop other musicians on a music team.
  10. Has familiarity or willingness to learn the software / apps used to coordinate, schedule and communicate with volunteers (i.e., Planning Center, etc.) and audio / visual technology related to the position.
  11. Has a deep familiarity with and appreciation for both contemporary music and classic hymns. Can lead the congregation in a primarily modern style that also incorporates the best of the rich tradition of music in the church.

 

Time Commitment

This is a full-time hourly position with an expectation of 32-36 hours per week.

 

Responsibilities

A. General

  1. Responsible participation in the life of the church.
  2. Work under the direction of the assigned supervising pastor, collaborating especially on weekly service planning.


B. Primary Responsibilities Relating to the Music Team

  1. On most weekends, the Music Director will provide the music leadership. This includes choosing songs, recruiting the team, leading rehearsals, etc. However, with the supervising pastor’s approval, arrangements can be made for others to lead music on occasion.
  2. Work with others to share and receive insight on enriching and sustaining the worship at CCC. As Proverbs 15:22 says, “Without counsel plans fail, but with many advisers they succeed.”
  3. Coordinate and schedule other staff and volunteer music leaders to share music leadership responsibilities, coordinate the Elder-led call to worship, and ensure that music leadership is prepared and in place for each weekend service. Oversee the schedule and arrange a protocol for changes.
  4. Contribute through prayer, partnership and sharing ideas to the development of the music ministry and the congregation as worshippers.
  5. Seek to develop a ministry mindset and growing capacity for Christ-centered disciple-making and spiritual encouragement in the context of gathered worship, in the community within the worship team and with congregants.
  6. Recruit and audition musicians and vocalists.
  7. Work to establish connection in the worship, sound and tech ministries through scheduled gatherings, rehearsals and discipleship opportunities.
  8. Work with staff to arrange music and tech for Special Services: Easter Sunrise, Good Friday, Christmas Eve, Prayer and Praise Evenings etc.

 

C. Primary Responsibilities Relating to the Tech Team 

  1. Coordinate and schedule the sound and tech volunteers.
  2. Work alongside the Audio Production Service Lead.
  3. Coordinate sound and tech requirements for the Race Day Picnic.
  4. Recruit, and facilitate interviews and onboarding for sound/tech volunteers.
  5. Work with sound/tech part-time staff to troubleshoot equipment as needed.
  6. Recruit as necessary for weddings, memorials or special events.

 

D. Continuing Education

Willingness to read assigned books or articles, meet with the supervising pastor and, at his direction, other pastoral staff for mentoring and discipleship. Willingness to attend occasional training seminars, suggested and/or approved by the lead pastor.

 

E. Administrative Relationships 

  1. Serve under the direction and authority of the lead pastor unless otherwise assigned.
  2. Work with the administrative support staff.
  3. Engage and work together with the members of the pastoral team.

 

F. Remuneration

Commensurate with education and experience.
