Job Description:
The full-time Assistant Librarian reports directly to the Library Director. The position primarily coordinates the staffing and operations of the circulation desk, including scheduling and training student workers, and implementing related policies. The role also manages library office supplies, and assists with tasks like patron requests, reference assistance, reserve readings, library tours, library off-site organization, and mailroom services. This position requires a lot of physical demands. Every effort has been made to ensure a complete job description. Essential Job Functions
Responsibilities and Requirements
- Circulation Desk: Schedule and manage the student workers and the Assistant Librarian position at the circulation desk each week throughout the semester. Manage the student worker scholarship fund throughout each FY on Paylocity. Instruct student workers on the library’s circulation policies and procedures. Enter and edit bibliographic and patron records, manage the Academic Reserve (reserve readings) collection, and process overdue and lost item notifications all using the library’s TLC Library Solution system.
- Off-Site: Travel to the library’s off-site location, re-shelve stored materials there, and transfer materials to and from the off-site. Assist in moving library shelving, furniture, and boxed materials, including loading and unloading items using a service truck.
- Mail-room: Assist in training student workers on mail room operations, and performing mail room sorting and runs as needed.
- Support Services: Assist in providing reference services and individual research workshops, fulfilling patron requests for specific titles, and managing the materials and supplies orders and fund throughout the FY.

Position Qualifications:
Qualifications, Education, and Experience
- College graduate.
- Excellent computer skills, including MS Word, Excel, and Adobe FormsCentral.
- Excellent organizational and bookkeeping skills.
- Ability to design and provide instructional modules.
- Ability to coordinate staff scheduling and time sheets.
Additional Qualification Preferences:
- Seminary degree from an ATS-accredited graduate school.
- MLS from an ALA accredited graduate school.
- Previous professional library experience.
- Previous supervisory experience.
Cognitive and Physical Demands
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Computer work, screen time, keyboarding, typing, wrist flexing/extension and other repetitive movements.
- Professional judgment in alignment with organizational values and policies is required.
- Effective communication, both verbal and written.
- Ability to train student workers on proper policies and procedures.
- Kneeling, standing, reaching, twisting, and grasping.
