Dr. Thomas Keene Promoted to Professor of New Testament

VIENNA, Va. — Reformed Theological Seminary is pleased to announce that Dr. Thomas Keene has been promoted from Associate Professor of New Testament to Professor of New Testament. The promotion is effective June 1, 2024.

A member of the RTS Washington faculty since 2018, Dr. Keene has also served as Academic Dean since 2019. Prior to his time at RTS, he was an associate pastor at Christ the King Presbyterian Church in Conshohocken, Pennsylvania and taught numerous courses at Westminster Theological Seminary.

“As Academic Dean, Tommy has adeptly shepherded our campus faculty, and has demonstrated his expertise in pedagogy and hermeneutics,” said President Dr. Scott Redd. “His guidance and wisdom have been a positive influence on the RTS Washington campus, and I am thankful for his continued enrichment of our academic community.”

Dr. Keene holds a B.S. in philosophy and computer science from Furman University and an MDiv and Ph.D. from Westminster Theological Seminary. His doctoral dissertation focused on the tabernacle metaphor in the book of Hebrews. In the area of scholarly research, Dr. Keene’s interests include biblical hermeneutics and typology, metaphor theory, and discourse analysis. Among other writings, he has contributed to The Illustrated Bible Dictionary (Baker Academic, 2013) and Issues in Luke-Acts (Gorgias Press, 2012).

Dr. Keene and his wife Sarah, an accomplished photographer, have been married since 2002 and have two daughters.
