Job Description:
Position description: We are seeking a full-time English ministry pastor for the English-speaking congregation of the Chinese Evangelical Church of Portland, OR. We are a body of Christians (singles, couples, and families) who believe and follow Jesus Christ, the Son of God. We seek to be a community that is God-centered, Gospel-driven, unity-bonded, grace-filled, and worship-animated. Our vision is to build the kingdom of God in Asian-American communities, grounded in the promises of the Gospel.
Responsibilities and Expectations: Responsible for the spiritual leadership and pastoral care of the English-speaking congregation and its members; preach and teach the Word of God faithfully by delivering Biblically-based and Spirit-filled messages that are applicable and challenging to the congregation in accordance with CEC’s Statement of Faith; cast the vision for the English congregation and work collaboratively with its lay leaders in the implementation and planning of ministry programs that support the vision; develop and train lay leaders; provide leadership and actively participate in prayer, education, discipleship and evangelism for the spiritual life and growth of members; responsible for the development of mentoring (discipleship) programs for the men and women; work creatively and collaboratively with the Chinese-speaking pastor and congregation; partner with the youth director and children director; provide leadership for other pastoral acts (weddings, baptisms, funerals).
Position Qualifications:
Qualifications: A candidate is a servant-leader who loves the Lord and has a passion for winning people and making disciples for Christ. Ideally the candidate should be fluent in English, has a Masters of Divinity (or equivalent), has knowledge and experience working with Asian/Asian-Americans and/or multi-ethnics people groups, and has at least 5 years of experience in pastoral ministry (cross-cultural ministry preferred). Being bilingual (English and Mandarin) is an extra plus.

Description of Organization
Our church was started about 30 years ago by a group of new immigrants from Taiwan who mainly spoke Mandarin Chinese. They formed a Bible study group and began meeting together in homes. Since then, God has blessed us with increased numbers over the years with the addition of immigrants from Mainland China and Southeast Asia as well American-born/raised individuals of Chinese descent. To meet the needs of the English-speaking individuals of our church, an English worship service and congregation have been started. Currently we have about 200 Mandarin/Cantonese speaking individuals in the Chinese congregation and about 60 English-speaking brothers and sisters in our English congregation.
