The African American Leadership Initiative at RTS Jackson partnered with Mission to North America and Redeemer Church, Jackson, to host the African American Leadership Development and Recruitment weekend in Jackson over Labor Day weekend 2012 (August 31 – September 2) right after Hurricane Isaac. With more than 80 in attendance from all over the US and even as far as London, England, the AALDR Weekend addressed topics pertaining to ministry by and among African Americans in a Reformed and Presbyterian context.
Speakers included Elbert McGowan and Roy Hubbard who are Reformed University Fellowship Campus Ministers at Historically Black Colleges and Universities, Mike Campbell and Randy Nabors who are pastors in multiethnic PCA churches, Mike Jones who is the pastor at an African American PCA church, Carl Ellis who teaches at Redeemer Seminary, Reddit Andrews who teaches at RTS Jackson, and Wy Plummer, the African American Ministry Coordinator of the PCA. The AALDR Weekend was held at Redeemer PCA and on the campus of Reformed Seminary with an option to visit RUF at JSU (an HBCU) the evening before the conference began. For more information about the weekend, visit the AALDR website. To listen to the sessions that were held at RTS on Saturday, visit here.
The target audience for the weekend was African American seminary students who are considering ministry opportunities in the PCA, but we wanted to include all African Americans who are considering ministry in the future to join us to explore opportunities within the PCA.
