OVIEDO, Fla.—Reformed Theological Seminary is pleased to announce that the Association of Theological Schools has approved the seminary to offer the Master of Theology degree, which will officially launch in January 2025. This postgraduate degree program, designed to further equip pastors and scholars for ministry in both the church and the academy, is now accepting applications.
The ThM degree at RTS offers rigorous academic training in theology and biblical studies. It allows students who have already completed a Master of Divinity (MDiv) or its equivalent to deepen their knowledge and expertise. This program is ideal for those looking to enrich their pastoral ministry, pursue advanced research, or prepare for PhD studies.
“We are thrilled to launch the ThM program at RTS Orlando. The advanced academic training that the ThM provides will serve both pastors looking to serve their congregations more faithfully in the ministry of the Word and students seeking to prepare for research at the doctoral level,” said Dr. Scott Swain, James Woodrow Hassell Professor of Systematic Theology and President of RTS Orlando.
The ThM program will offer a flexible format to accommodate residential students at the RTS Orlando campus and those seeking to combine in-person intensives with online coursework. This will allow students to complete the program while maintaining their current ministry or academic roles.
ThM Program Overview
Students in the ThM program can choose between two concentrations: Biblical Studies and Theology. The program is structured to be completed within 12 months for full-time students, though part-time options are available for those needing additional flexibility. The program requires coursework in advanced biblical and theological subjects and offers the option of completing a thesis or taking additional directed reading courses for students focusing on specific research interests.
Dr. Michael Allen, J.D. Trimble Professor of Systematic Theology and Academic Dean at RTS Orlando, will serve as the ThM program director. “This program represents a crucial step for RTS as we continue to invest in the next generation of theological leaders,” said Dr. Allen. “We aim to equip students for teaching and leadership roles in churches, seminaries, and universities by building on the rich Reformed tradition and encouraging advanced scholarship.”

To be eligible for the ThM program, applicants must hold an MDiv or its academic equivalent degree, complete at least two semesters each of Greek and Hebrew, and possess a minimum GPA of 3.25. RTS is now accepting applications for the program’s inaugural class, which will begin in January 2025.
