Reformed Theological Seminary is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Greg Lanier as Academic Dean of RTS Global, the seminary’s online program, effective August 1, 2022.
Dr. Lanier succeeded Dr. James Anderson, who also serves as RTS New York City’s Academic Dean.
“As we transition to a new Academic Dean at RTS Global, we are grateful for the many years of service and dedication Dr. James Anderson has given to us and our students,” said Executive Director David John. “Dr. Anderson has been wonderful to work with and his impact on the quality of our programs will continue to bless our online students for years to come.”
Dr. Lanier will continue in his role as Associate Professor of New Testament at RTS Orlando, where he has taught courses related to New Testament exegesis and interpretation, Greek, and preaching since 2016.
Before completing Ph.D. studies at the University of Cambridge in England, he earned degrees at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (B.S.) and Reformed Theological Seminary, Charlotte (MDiv). His research interests include the synoptic gospels, canon and textual criticism, the use of the Old Testament in the New, the Pauline epistles, and the Septuagint.
“One of the wonderful aspects of working at RTS is the tremendous quality of our faculty, and Dr. Greg Lanier is no exception,” John said. “Dr. Lanier has deep roots in the RTS family as a Charlotte graduate and is known as a dynamic lecturer and teacher who cares deeply about the academic and spiritual growth of his students. We are excited to work with Dr. Lanier and draw from his expertise as we strive to improve our online curriculum in reaching a growing body of students across the globe.”
Dr. Lanier is the author of several books and articles. Recent books include Old Made New: A Guide to the New Testament Use of the Old Testament (Crossway, 2022) and The Septuagint: What it is and Why it Matters (with William A. Ross; Crossway, 2021).
A teaching elder in the PCA, he is the part-time Associate Pastor at River Oaks Church in Lake Mary, Fla. He also serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Biblical and Theological Studies and maintains a blog.
Provost and CAO Dr. Robert Cara shared, “Dr. Lanier’s impressive publishing record shows his concern for academic quality. He is also known for his interaction with students, both in person and in online venues. I am looking forward to working with him in this new capacity.”
