About Mrs. Martin
Barb Martin coordinates the Counseling Center at RTS. In this capacity she networks with the community to encourage referrals to the clinic. This is a vital part of the MAC program at RTS since each student is required to complete at least 400 hours of face-to-face counseling with clients in order to graduate. Barb assigns cases to the students, sets up the supervision schedule from semester to semester, manages the day to day functioning in the clinic and networks with the Greater Jackson area community. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), and a board qualified supervisor with the Mississippi Board of Licensed Professional Counselors and supervises RTS student counselors both in individual supervision and group supervision. Barb is also a Clinical Fellow and Approved Supervisor for AAMFT. Barb’s work with national disasters through MTW should be added.
Barb teaches a play therapy seminar to the students; supervises the students in the play therapy they do; and helps them work with families of children. She regularly interacts with students when they enter clinic, and as they near graduation, she works with them to explore options for employment after graduation. Barb has three grown sons, three daughters-in-law, and five grandchildren. Her passion is traveling in mountainous areas, and she loves to walk at five in the morning when all is still quiet. She helps her husband raise chemical-free produce and chickens and her favorite pastime is drinking a good cup of coffee and reading.
