Jemar Tisby Named to List of 15 Influential Black Evangelicals

Jemar Tisby, a fourth year MDIV student at RTS Jackson, has been named to the list of 15 Black Christian Leaders You Should Know, an article by Corrie Mitchell on faithstreet.com.

Corrie Mitchell introduced her list by saying, “In honor of Black History Month, here is a list of black Christian leaders shaping the face of the church.”  Her list includes rappers Lecrae and Propaganda, authors Tony Carter and Trillia Newbell, and pastors Eric Mason, Thabiti Anyabwile, and Bryan Loritts.

Jemar co-founded the Reformed African American Network which launched in October 2012.  The mission of the RAAN is to fuel modern reformation in the African American community and with a global mindset by addressing the core concerns of African Americans biblically, by connecting Christians who adhere to Reformed doctrines–especially African Americans, and by building theology in community from a Reformed and African American perspective as well as with others from diverse ethnic backgrounds.

Jemar also co-founded the African American Leadership Initiative at RTS Jackson which began in the summer of 2012.  The African American Leadership Initiative has two goals: 1) to recruit more African Americans to RTS Jackson and 2) to equip students of any race for ministry in African American, mutliethnic, or urban contexts.  AALI accomplishes these goals through four platforms: 1) Mentoring, 2) Modeling, 3) Fellowship, and 4) Scholarship.  These platforms are required for those on scholarship, but they are open to the whole seminary community.
