Job Description:

PURPOSE:
In coordination with the senior pastor, the session, and in accordance with the mission and vision of SBRPC, this position is primarily responsible for Christ-centered and gospel-centered ministry in the lives of students (Jr. High and Sr. High) and their families through gospel teaching (formal and informal), leadership development, intentional discipleship, prayer, and general oversight.

ACCOUNTABILITY:
Reports to a pastor for weekly oversight and coordination of ministry plans.

QUALIFICATIONS:
A mature follower of Jesus Christ who understands that salvation is through faith alone in Christ alone.

Preferred/not required previous experience working with Jr. High and Sr. High students and families.

A personal desire to grow in the grace and knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Works with a philosophy of ministry that reflects the following:
Understands that student ministry is a unique part of the local church but not an entity unto itself

Has a view of ministry that embraces the primary covenant relationship of the family

Works to incorporate other adults and families in the discipleship of students
Committed to grounding students in a practical, Biblical understanding of Scripture, Justification, and Sanctification

Sees youth ministry as an opportunity for outreach in the surrounding community

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Ministry to Self
Maintain personal time spent studying and meditating upon Scripture
Maintain personal time spent in prayer
Involved and regularly participating in the community of faith at SBRPC

Ministry within the church
Lead families and other adults to be involved in the student ministry
Give oversight and direction to volunteers and chaperones
Ministry of Word
Formal teaching of God’s Word to students via small group and large group Bible studies
Informal teaching of God’s Word in one-to-one interaction with students
Seeking to relevantly apply God’s Word to the lives of students
Creating events or attending events (RYM, spring and fall conferences, etc.) aimed at deepening students understanding and application of God’s Word to their lives

Ministry of Discipleship
Recognizing that each student is an individual with his or her own baggage, preconceived ideas, resistance, and receptivity to the teaching of God’s Word
Building and maintaining relationships of trust with students
Seeking to mature students in the faith over a long period of time
Creating or participating in opportunities of service in the church or in our community

Ministry of Presence
Pursuant of students in their own culture (school, sports, hobbies, etc.)
Available to students for counsel, encouragement, and correction
Available to parents of students, seeking to assist parents in the nurture and instruction of their children

Ministry of Outreach
Developing a culture of receptivity and hospitality among the students
Encouraging and equipping students to pursue their peers for Christ
Creating venues in order to attract and interact with students outside of SBRPC.

This may seem like a daunting job description. What we are looking for, more than checking off a list, is a willingness to serve and a willingness to grow.

We would love to help a seminary student who could do online classes and possibly commute to Jackson a couple of days a week.
